how to get bluetooth on netbook to work with bluetooth mouse

Hi,

I love the speed of porteus boot time and also many other features.

I will greatly appreciate if someone can guide me through simple step by step how to get bluetooth on my netbook (MSI U270) to work with my bluetooth mouse.

I am using Porteus 3 mate and XFCE.

I tried installing

blueman-r708-i486-2.xzm
bluez-4.99-i486-2.xzm
bluez firmware
python-2.7.5-i486-1.xzm
tcl-8.5.11-i486-1.xzm
tk-8.5.11-i486-1.xzm
libvisual-0.4.0-i486-3.xzm
gstreamer-0.10.36-i486-1.xzm
gst-plugins-base-0.10.36-i486-2.xzm
dbus-python-1.1.0-i486-1.xzm
bluez-firmware-1.2-i486-1.xzm
notify-python-0.1.1-i486-3.xzm
pycairo-1.8.10-i486-2.xzm
pygobject-2.28.6-i486-2.xzm
pygtk-2.24.0-i486-1.xzm
pyrex-0.9.9-i486-2.xzm

but bluetooth applet and bluetooth manager failed to start.

Thanks

@cttan

the fix is available but unfortunately it's only for KDE4 desktop (other DEs does not contain bluetooth stack by default as far as i'm aware).
Please add [Solved] to your thread title if the solution was found.

Thanks for the reply.

According to fanthom, I guess we will have to use porteus 3 kde for now if we need bluetooth function.

Porteus 3 kde is great but my preference is porteus 3 mate because the boot up is faster than porteus3 kde.

I do hope that the porteus team will be able to solve the bluetooth issue for porteus3 mate soon.

Really happy to use Porteus Linux. It has the potential to become one of the best and most unique linux os.

The booting speed of Porteus is such a joy. What is surprising is the effective "modular" system and the pakage managements system. My freeoffice softmaker runs so well in porteus. Wine works and I could run my favourite Windows program like photofiltre, powerpoint viewer, etc. I love Linux Lite but if I just want to do some quick browsing or typing, I always end up using porteus. Why would I want to wait for an OS that takes long time to boot up when Porteus is ready to use in just a matter of seconds.

So, I do look forward to being able to use bluetooth function in Porteus3 mate in time to come. Otherwise, i will have to turn off all the special effects of kde desktop environment and see if Porteus3 mate can boot up as fast as porteus Mate.

Thanks again to the Porteus Development Team and also forum-ers who hang around to share feedback and solutions.

Thanks fanthom for the update.
I will test it out. It has been out for the past 3 months. I have not been checking update in Porteus as often as I should be.

Sorry fanthom and pchan as I am always on KDE so am not aware of the bluetooth stack only available in KDE only.
The bluetooth applet is showing in the tray area again after putting in the fix. :good:

@pchan
I suggest you to test out the KDE version as I found it to be snappy and stable.
