you have a script that make a snapshot of system and build the iso .only you do not open firefox or the browser that you use when make the snapshot, the browser generate a lot of instant data

@ED_P
The problem occurs when doing a UCM update, not of a particular package but a UCM All update, and going from 3.0 to 3.1 for example. The update runs, USM works, life is good. This all done using the GUI. Then rebooting after the update, updating the save.dat file with changes=EXIT, I attempt to use UCM and nothing happens. Then I switch to terminal mode and try usm -v and I get the UCM file not found errors, ucm.conf etc, the same as Returnite.
first of all it's 'USM'
secondly - before updating USM /USM dadabese did you boot:
a) without changes
b) with 'changes=save.dat'
c) with 'changes=EXIT:save.dat'

thanks

I always boot with the c) option unless I have to boot with the a) option. I do that because it allows me when I shut down to avoid saving changes I made that screwed up my system.

I believe I may have encountered the problem using the update-usm.sh script brokenman posted also.

When I upgraded USM to 3.1.2 I did it with a new rebuilt save.dat file, used the USM GUI to update just the USM program, rebooted, tested USM GUI and it worked then I updated the databases, rebooted and USM GUI continued to work.

Yes this is most probably a factor. The script removes /etc/usm/usm.conf which creates thw whiteout file: /mnt/live/memory/changes/etc/usm/.wh.usm.conf
Thanks.

Hi, I have just put porteus RazorQT on my usb pendrive, just booted and made 512 Mb save.dat container on HDD (sda1) , rebooted and set up internet connection and fired up USM, did USM update, confirmed update (did not update databases) rebooted again and USM is not working.
The internet connection was remembered by the save.dat file.

Try usm -u all. And please when something does not work give us the output and use the code display to reduce the size of the output to a small window (if the file is not to huge). That is:

Code: Select all

root@porteus:~/iscan-plugin# usm -u all
 Starting alien database update
Downloading: CHECKSUMS.md5.gz DONE
Downloading: MANIFEST.bz2 17%^C
rm: cannot remove ‘/tmp/usm/MANIFEST.bz2’: No such file or directory
root@porteus:~/iscan-plugin# usm -u all
 Starting alien database update
Downloading: CHECKSUMS.md5.gz DONE
...

root@porteus:~/iscan-plugin#
If usm still does not work, we will provide you with another way to get it going.

There is no output when the USM GUI fails. Nothing happens.

A terminal mode usm -v command could reveal useful info and be quicker and less output than a usm -u all.

This was not my case when it got wrong. But it might crash otherwise on other installations.

Go at the following thread page and get at the post with IMPORTANT and written by brokenman. There is a small program that will reset usm to original values:
