[SOLVED] GNOME MPlayer

Post#1 by Obosan » 13 Apr 2014, 19:17

GNOME MPlayer's default setting was "xv".
My mpeg, mpg, mp4 couldn't play properly, I could hear the voice without video.

What I have done. (As you might know this is first time to use MPayer for me.
So what I found wouldn't be enought to solve your problem with MPlayer.)
Anyway I post! I hope someone see this topic and you may solve your problem.

First of all, I changed my Setting.
GNOME MPlayer's Setting will be found in Menu>Editing>Setting.
You'll see "xv" as default of Porteus, click there and change xv
to x11. On my personal computer after changing to x11, it worked.

Please let me know if it works for you. Best regards, :D

afair you have SIS GPU which is troublesome under lInux.
'xv' is used for GPU accelerated decoding while 'x11' means software decoding (CPU only). i guess that you are using unaccelerated VESA driver for Xorg (rather that SIS) thus x11 is required for Mplayer.
please upload 'xpsinfo' report and link here so we can find out.
Please add [Solved] to your thread title if the solution was found.

@[cher francois/b]
SiS seem to be very troublesome for Linux I imagin.

I did root@porteus:~# xpsinfo and "Porteus system info" appeared.
Which part of tab and sub tab should I report for you?

@obosan:
Fanthom and francois are different. Lets say that fanthom is the top, or lets say one of the top developper for porteus. And francois, is no developper at all, but some kind of tenacious tester, with few computer knowledge.

@fanthom
I am truly sorry for writing your name incorrectly. m(_ _)m
I remember your instruction on "Problem booting to GUI" SIS and now I can use version 3.0.
Thank you very much!

Regarding Porteus system info, I hope it will help you for analysis.

Dear fanthom and francois,

Changing GNOME MPlayer's default setting "xv" of Porteus xfce to "x11" VESA, I can now watch mpeg/mpg and mp4 video properly.

I would like to know how I can watch movies in 1.8x, 2x or 4x speed on MPlayer?
Do I need to install SMPlayer to achieve my interest? Or does MPlayer itself has a speed change feature?

Thanks for your kind attention in advance, :D

Hi,

Using USM (Unified Slackware Package Manager), I was able to make smplayer.xzm.
Now I can watch mpg/mpeg and mp4 with pitch/speed change feature.

In USM, I found two smplayer.txz and I selected 1st one.
smplayer-0.8.6-i486-1sl.txz 2138K slacky repository (uncompressed package size 10170 K)
smplayer-0.8.6-i486-1gv.txz 2146K salix repository (uncompressed package size 8584 K)
Anyone knows the difference of these two files?
One has less compressed package size and bigger uncompressed size comparing with another one.

I downloaded the following files:
smplayer-0.8.6-i486-1sl.txz
qt-4.8.5-i486-2.txz
gst-plugins-base-0.10.36-i486-2.txz
gstreamer-0.10.36-i486-2.txz
libiodbc-3.52.7-i486-2.txz
mariadb-5.5.32-i486-1.txz
libvisual-0.4.0-i486-3.txz
libaio-0.3.109-i486-1.txz
Sub-folder/Module/Merge modules: All Select

Renamed gst-plugins-base-0.10.36-i486-bundle.xzm to smplayer-0.8.6-i486-1sl.xzm.
Put it in /porteus/optional. Right clicked on the file and select Activate.
Voila! It works very fine.

I thank you who created USM and who taught me how to use it from the bottom of my heart.
Both of you are great! I respect you guys. :Bravo:
