Hi-

Is there any limit on save.dat file size? For i.e. if I use an external drive or big flash drive, can I make the save.dat much larger. Puppy linux used to have a limit, but I can' remember the exact size for their pup save files. I should be storing packages I want to persist in save.dat with package manager .... isn't that right?

No. You should be working from a native linux file system and not needing a save.dat file. If you are forced to use FAT32/NTFS then to have your packages persist simply place them in the 'modules' folder. They will be loaded at every boot. Have you read our documentation?

I have read some documentation. Just not all of it. I am sure I am half off reading something that is isn't essential, not knowing which order to follow. I will read some more definitely.

I didn't come across the part about the modules and anything about being forced to use ntfs. I will certainly look for that. It sounds like I will stay away from ntfs based on your inflection, until I at least read more.

If you have Porteus installed (or any linux) it is always better to install it on a native linux file system. The only time you need a save.dat file is if you have installed Porteus on a FAT32/NTFS partition. Personally I can't think of any reason why one would have to use a non native file system. In any case this is a good read:

When I use Porteus save file manager, I got "Permission denied." "Please try again"
messagge as I input password "toor" as usual. It worked until yesterday.

Do you think I need to reconstruct my USB Flash drive?
I copied Porteus folders on fat32 formatted usb drive and created ext4 Porteus save file.
The save file size was 1024MB.

When I convert FreeMind.txz to *.xzm, on terminal, it shows no space left/ no left on device.

Any solution would be pretty much appreciate.

This is indeed a good read. A little confusing but definitely interesting.

As I reboot, Opera and Chrome doesn't work. This is the reason why I write this on firefox.

for my personal very old computer because it used be worked so fine with a lot of efforts and helps of

I can not imagine that I have been able to learn a lot about Porteus/Linux as well as slackware without you.

What I would like to know is why password "toor" doesn't work suddenly?
Do you have any solution? If there isn't, I will reformat my USB flash

To create large save.dat file it is better to start download large file from Internet and immediately pause downloading - many download managers reserves space for downloading files. Then you should format your file with mkfs command. The advantage is that you don't write all file to disk but only reserve space - quicker and less writes to disk. I don't see point to create large save.dat(.xzm) file ca 2-20MB is enough to save config files and create symlinks to folders on ntfs or fat. If the save.dat file proves to be full it can be expanded via the Porteus Settings Centre options. Just be sure the file isn't in use via the changes or extramod cheatcodes when you expand it, else it will end up empty.
