If you install a aplication .exe
wine make button in menu

for example to install exe

Code: Select all

guest@porteus:~$ wine /home/guest/Downloads/your-app-windows.exe

my usb stick is only 65 Mb. i have no HD it died last nite. i have porteus on a RW-DVD . i got 4 gigs of RAM.
Now are you saying I have to reboot to install wine ?

In your situation working with a cd is almost dishonoring, and will not permit you to enjoy porteus or any other linux distribution to help you out of the situation you are in. :( You would save a lot of time by buying a usb key 8gig must be at $8 at staples. I think that you can get one of 16gig for twice the price. Make sure it is linux bootable, not one of those only windows bootable.

yep its a bitch . i live way out in the country about 30 KM from a paved road trotting to the store isnt happening soon.
I thought I should be able to boot from my cd
remake my iso from that cd.
add my updates to the iso
then as it is a RW just reburn the cd
OR
its a RW cd cant i just write to it and add/delete files on it while linux is up and running ???

Maybe the best alternative would be to go and prepare your porteus cd on a friendly neighbor computer or at least borrow a bigger bigger usb from that neighbor.

this is like computing with boxing gloves on. Looks like a wonderful OS but you cant do anything without a big learning curve
whats the point of a gui if everything is done in a dos window.

@kerfy: It might seem a little daunting at first but that is because Porteus has so many options available. What you would like to do is not possible on most OS's.
If you would like to edit the same CD you booted off you need to use copy2ram cheatcode so that the system copies itself into the ram. You will then need to make your changes then make an iso from it http://www.porteus.org/faq/desktop-faq.html#twenty2. Once you have done that you can re-burn the CD.

copy2ram is working ,its in the menu that pops up on boot . it goes by a little 2 fast never saw it the firstfew timethen it took a while to realize it wqs a menu
everything is blue. i used pcmagic to download another iso and put my modules into that iso and burned it to another cd-rw
it works i can eject the disc fine and do whatever. i can not make an iso from the porteus disc i tried the script thats on the porteus disc but it wants write permission for the disc the disc is a read only file sytem i cant chang dick .. back yo partion magic to do anything ... again
the includedsoftware does not include anythimg to create a iso image from a dic just mess with the one you already have.
itried to get simple burn installed but agin its back to the command line.. yes i remember dos.... thats why there are gui now.
anyway the cmake command starts out fine but the make command wants a target ??

so still i can not make an iso at all from the disc but i canwrite one at least...12 hrs of pissing around for little return
well im learning a bit of stuff i forot years ago at least
i am amazed at the lack of software for this OS or at least finding it.

At first i as just trying to et wine installed and werking . well its installed but not werking
keeps telling me some file dont exist. the wineconfig shows up in the panel but does nothing when pushed .

Has anyone actually got wine working on this distribution ?? or am i jing tust wasting time on this distribution ??
these tasks should be pretty straight forward i would think. even fer a dino like me.

I never used wine. I make no promise as I have many things to do today. But maybe by tomorrow if I can get wine going on, I will post an iso on mediafire. Maybe someone will beat me at the end line.

Wine works fine in porteus.
I've played need for speed in porteus via wine and microsoft silverlight.
But if you really want wine, give preference to porteus i486 because wine is only 32bit.
On 64bit systems need to be multilib and this often does not works fine.

For works In porteus 64 bit you need compat-32 (multilib) it has given me some problems.
Wine works only in 32 bit system, if you want less hassle is better to use porteus i486.
