WINE installation

Is there a WINE xzm module?

I don't see one in the Porteus Package manager, although it appears in the Repository.

I've used the module from here: https://disk.yandex.com/public/?hash=Kq ... wOF9ZL4%3D

But can't run wine:

Code: Select all

guest@porteus:~$ wine
bash: /usr/bin/wine: No such file or directory
guest@porteus:~$ which wine
/usr/bin/wine

Wine is present in the form of bundle in:
http://dl.porteus.org/i486/current/modules/
http://dl.porteus.org/i486/current/modules/

I had to correct that information. I took apple for pears. :oops: PPM provides wine in the form of qtwine. It works fine.

Hi,

Just started a few days ago with Porteus, and very impressed with it :good:

Also looking for Wine as davecoventry, but unfortunately I don't see it at:
http://dl.porteus.org/i486/current/modules/

I've only found something at /x86_64/current/extras/wine-1.5.26-x86_64-1alien.xzm

but presume this is not for i486.

Can you please recheck the url?

Thanks

@davecoventry
please have a look on README file in /extras which explains wine issue on 64bits quite well:
http://dl.porteus.org/x86_64/current/extras/README.txt

@sancho
this is in fact 32bit wine so should work ok with 32bits (despite of x86_64 label). if not then please grab it from PPM -> alien repo.

Just found what took me on wrong track...

package wine-1.5.31 having description: "q4 Q4Wine (W.I.N.E. Qt4 GUI) q4 q4 Q4Wine is a Qt4 GUI for W.I.N.E. It will help you manage wine..." in Porteus categories/keywords window, so I though it was something else (although package name was too simple and suggesting the main package) so I've clicked on "Full description" button that shows correct package description :-)

Finally clicked "Get it now" and after PPM magic, wine works like a charm. Thanks.

The readme says this:
1) "compat32-libraries"
64bit edition of Porteus has support for executing of 32bit applications built into kernel.
However, applications which are not compiled statically still needs 32bit shared libraries to run.
Please download and activate compat32-libraries module if you want to run 32bit applications
(wine, teamviewer, adobe reader, etc).

2) "flashblock.jar"
Localization files were removed for Kiosk and i used the same addon for standard (oops..).
No need to worry - LST will download this file automatically and include in your localization module (for both archs).

3) "wine"
wine is 32bit and requires "compat32-libraries" to run.
I suppose I'm to interpret this as meaning I need a package called compat32-libraries. However, I can find no such package in the Porteus package manager. Following the link in your post, I see there is a file at http://dl.porteus.org/x86_64/current/ex ... 64-1sl.xzm.

Presumably I download this and copy it to my modules directory.

In which case, why not say so? Why point me to an obscure README file and tell me to RTFM? Isn't the package manager supposed to resolve these sorts of dependencies?

~Dave

Hi Dave. you were never told rudely to RTFM, but you were politely headed to an appropriate link with the appropriate information. The intent was pedagogical. Please choose your terms when writing on the forum. And use the attitude you would like others to have with you.

We hope that by reading the faq you will be able to give back generously to other members of the forum.

Some members of this forum peculiarly deserve respect because of the huge amount of work they have done, but also for the wide knowledge they have about the linux system, and specifically porteus this wonderfull little beast. They detain information that other members will not be able to provide and for which you would have to search with the hard way with google and keywords. Let me tell you that Fantom deserves much respect.

How are you doing with that solution? :wink:

@ François or Fanthom

I'm using Porteus-LXDE-v2.1 and downloaded the modules:
wine-1.5.26-x86_64-1alien.xzm
compat32-libraries-2.0-x86_64-1sl.xzm
but on rebooting all the directory names were changed to noughts in the file manager so I removed the modules and all is back to normal.

Think I'll forget about Wine and use other options!

@davecoventry
unfortunately PPM treats 32bit libraries as they were 64bit so i cant include any 32bit stuff directly in porteus repo. /extras on the server is not perfect but the only solution at the moment.

@Sagittarius
will check that issue tomorrow - thanks for reporting.

find Paulby module in forum and use it without compat32 or with compat32 use: ponce.cc/porteus/i486/modules-14.0/syst ... 86-1sl.xzm

@ Tome
Thanks for the tip! Wine is working for me now without the compat32 libraries and with the file you pointed me to.
Cheers :D
