BBCi Player not working [SOLVED]

Post#1 by AndyInMokum » 22 Nov 2013, 12:51

Hi from Amsterdam. I've just started to use Porteus again. I have been using Crunchbang 11 to learn Linux. Very nice it is too. The Porteus version I am using is the 64bit MATE one with open source drivers. I have it installed to a 16GB SanDisk thumb drive. My Computer is a Fujitsu-Siemens AMILO Notebook Li 3710, CPU: 2x Intel Pentium Dual CPU T3400 @ 2.16GHz. Porteus's system info said it was okay to use 64bit even though my rig is 32bit. I tested different combos of 32bit and 64bit and the 64bit MATE works like a champ on my laptop. The only problem I am having so far is, I cannot play anything using the BBCi player. The site opens and I can navigate without a problem. It is when I try to play anything, it gets stuck loading. Is there a solution to this? Other than that, this is the only problem I have encountered. I have to say this is a beautiful distro :Yahoo!:. Well done chaps and chapettes :D !

Most likely a mimetype problem and the browser doesn't know how to handle the file you want to stream. I will have to check it out. Which browser are you using?

Hi brokenman, thanks for getting back to me. I am using Firefox 21.0. So far everything else is working with the exception of RawTherapee. That won't open. However, Gimp is great. I am really very impressed with Porteus. I made a test CloneZilla and did a restore to the thumbdrive without a problem. I gave it a plug in the Crunchbang forum, "Distro Hopper Anonymous" section, http://crunchbang.org/forums/viewtopic. ... 5729&p=108, Number 2687.

Nice little writeup on crunchbang (an awesome distro). Can you please give me a link to a page containing the BBCi player? When I went there it said it was only available in the UK. I have booted under porteus gnome3 to see if it works here.

Hi brokenman. the site is, http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/. Sorry, I didn't make myself clear because I don't use the TV side of BBCi Player only the Radio. That's available internationally. I have used the TV in the past on my old Mac but only through a proxy. Many thanks for your help :) .

Hi phhpro, Thanks for getting back to me. I finally found time to try your suggestion. Unfortunately, it made no difference at all. The problem seems to be specific to the BBCi website. As I mentioned in a previous reply, I only us the the radio side of the BBC iPlayer because I'm cheap - and proud of it  ! Sound and radio works beautifully with everything else I've tried. Anyway, I thought I'd let you know how it fared. Thanks again..

Hi phhpro and thanks. I haven't tried your suggestion so, I'm going to give it a go. Its strange because the BBC iPlayer loads with no problem and I can navigate around the site without an issue. It is when I try to open a radio station, live or archived. It just sits there trying to load and that's all she wrote so to speak. I'll let you know how I get on with your suggestion. It will be interesting to find a solution as I am sure I will not be unique with this issue :( . Other than this and not being able to get RawTherapee to work. Porteus has posed no significant issues. It just works. :D!

Correction. You beat your ahead against a wall for 3 days :wall: and then find that the solution was simple.

Glad you got it sorted. It was working for me so I was starting to look deeper at packages.
