[SOLVED] Chrome vs. Chromium - Why Chrome?

Post#1 by iolalog » 12 Oct 2013, 21:12

Hi guys

I read a comment that said something like "...Chrome without Google tracking..." :) about Chromium the other day. Regardless of the validity of the statement, I have two questions:
1 . Why have you chosen to include Chrome instead of Chromium in the download page?
2. Can i replace Chrome with Cromium by simply replacing the module in the base folder? (don't know if components relevant to the browser is compiled in the core, as compiling your own core is still "the science fiction part" of Linux for me)

1. It came down to popularity of browsers.
2. Yes you can simply replace the module in the base folder providing your chromium module has all required dependencies.

Download it through the PPM and then at the last stage there is a nice option to choose to merge all the modules together. You should then stick it in your base or modules folder. The science fiction part is in the hands of our resident guru who makes fiction a science ... fanthom. This means you don't need to worry about the core of Porteus.

@iolalog
Chromium is the open source version of Chrome, that's all... :%)
