@willipabon:
1) At the begining of the thread you forgot to tell us if your printer was working usb wise. Is it the case? You have to sort the issue of getting your printer work with the right driver, before trying to work with it on network. If in the list of printers you do not see hl-2270dw, it seems that HL-2170W is a good substitute, see:
http://www.openprinting.org/printer/Bro ... -HL-2270DW

With the printing.xzm you have to go for the ppd method:
porteus panel menu > system > printing > +(icon) > provide ppd file > filesystem > /usr/share/cups/model/ > /usr/share/cups/model/Brother-HL-2170W-hpijs-pcl5e.ppd

2) Once your ppd file or driver is installed, then you could use the procedure for network printer given at the beginning of your thread but using the ppd option with the printer.xzm module.

@ahau: Brother HL-2270DW is not in the /usr/share/cups/model/ of the printer.xzm module, neither it is in gutenprint module. If it works maybe we should just make a copy of Brother-HL-2170W-hpijs-pcl5e.ppd And I suspect that generic pcl 5e or pcl 5e lf could work also for the HL-2270DW. Maybe willipabon could test these! :) And then write a nice howto for the hl-22j70dw as there is not much on the net, if the above does not work. It might be more complicated than expected.

Also, I have found a few pertinent threads:

francois:

I tried the HL-2170w driver using the printing system (Manage Printing) that redirects me to CUPS. There I found the hl2170w driver as you described above, selected it and, viola!, I can print to my network printer. If anything changes, will let you know. Thanks. :Yahoo!:

PS:
The PPD file that shows when I choose the printer above is: HPIJS-PC.PPD

@willibeaucoupmieux: :wink:

Are you with the network install?

Would you do something for me? Please test also:
generic driver - pcl 5e
to see if it works as well?

Thanks.

Yes. Mi printer is connected to the router(ethernet) with static IP and I access it via Wi-Fi. OK, will try with the generic driver. Is it in the list with the rest of the drivers (/usr/share/cups/model/)?

system > printing > new printer

And instead of brother, (recommended), select Generic. It will be there. :)

francois:

What I did was to change the printer driver and used the generic as it is shown in the list:

Generic PCL 5e Printer - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.9 (grayscale, 2-sided printing)

And the answer is that it works fine. There's a slight difference in the gray scale printing, but not much. Reverting back to hl-2170 driver.

generic pcl5e can print more dark, if you set it to do so. :)
