Welcome williepabon.

Are you usb, cd or frugal (hdd) install? Which version of porteus are you using?

Chrome is installed only under guest account, not root.

-32 bit:
http://dl.porteus.org/i486/testing/Port ... 2/modules/
-64 bit:
http://dl.porteus.org/x86_64/testing/Po ... 2/modules/

Just download the module and put it in the /porteus/modules folder. Right click and then click on 'open with activate'

Unless things have changed recently. See:
http://forum.porteus.org/viewtopic.php?f=51&t=1596

In fact, the only module that worked for me was graciously provided by beny. I will try to find it if needed.

I downloaded and activated the latest version of Chrome. The activation seemed to be successful but, when I click the icon to run the program nothing happens. Same thing happened when downloading and activating Chromium from the repos. Please, help.

On which version of porteus os are you working, 32 or 64 bit? Please give more details.

If 2.1 rc, remove the precedent module from /porteus/modules and put it in /porteus/optional and try:

32 bit:
http://dl.porteus.org/i486/current/modules/
64bit:
http://dl.porteus.org/x86_64/current/modules/

Thanks for answering. I'm running the 32bit version of Porteus-v2.0

Are you running root or guest?

For version 2.0 in guest mode, the module of paulby should work in guest mode, he has updated it recently. If it does not work, just right him directly on the thread. I am going to test it guest mode and confirm. However, if you are in root mode you will need a trick.

I found a workaround for root mode:
http://productforums.google.com/forum/# ... t-CUBr569s

All you need to do is to modify the last line (line 42) of the file /usr/bin/google-chrome /opt/google/chrome/google-chrome:
from:

Code: Select all

exec -a "$0" "$HERE/chrome" "$@"
to:

Code: Select all

exec -a "$0" "$HERE/chrome" "$@" --user-data-dir
Edit: I just installed 2.1 final, chrome works perfectly in guest mode and root mode. And the above trick works perfectly fine. But for the workaround to work, you have to have the save change option. If not, only changing the file with --user-data-dir will not be enough. You will have to extract the module into a folder and then change the /usr/bin/google-chrome file within that folder and finally rebuild the chrome module. Which is not so complicated.

Ask questions if there is a problem.

I was running as guest, but after you mentioned it, I tried to run it as root and I got a message that it only runs as a regular user. Then, I moved the module from /Downloads to /porteus/modules, activated it and viola!, now it seems to be working OK. I didn't try your suggestions since they were too advanced from my level of knowledge of Porteus. Thanks again.

@williepabon:

If you want the module to function, or it has to be activated manually or you have to put it in the /porteus/module folder so that it is activated automatically at bootup.

Please read the documentation or FAQ before asking questions on the forum. You might find a lot of precious information concerning the functioning of porteus software.

Have a nice day. :)

Just to report, Chrome seems to be working OK now, but the first problem that I'm getting is that YouTube videos play broken. The audio seems OK. And, as my grandson would say in French (I don't have the slightest idea of what he is writing :%) )
"Merci pour l'assistance qui tu me peut donner. "

Cela me fait plaisir = The pleasure is for me.

Your grandson happiness, is a very venerable quest. :)

I do not have that problem on the google chrome version for porteus 2.1 final or rc.

What type of video are you trying to play? Maybe flashplayer is missing for movies? Give us the link of the video you are trying to play. Maybe the solution for you would be to change for porteus 2.1 final version.

The problem shows with any YouTube video in Chrome. The problem doesn't exist in Firefox. Maybe, I should upgrade Porteus to 2.1, I don't know.

As I said on another thread, I did a clean install with version 2.1. After a few problems, I got it running nice, but the problem with YouTube in Chrome still exist. Found other problems with the browser module. Will report on the modules section. Thanks.
