Laaaag

Post#1 by ITemplate » 24 Mar 2013, 16:38

Hi,

Lenovo T500 with intel NIC.

New Porteus user, just downloaded and installed version 2, it all looks good, but I'm having some lag. I think the culprit is the network connection. When I see the lag, the network icon on my laptop blinks intensively. This is very annoying indeed. Everything is "stock" so I'm using Mozilla.

Are there some tweaks I should perform?

Please boot into fresh mode with no other modules loaded except for what you have in porteus/base folder. In your pastebin i see many other modules loaded. If the problem persists we can start looking at drivers.

Hi,

Sorry for the late response, I had some traveling. I decided to reinstall 32-bit version as I have read that there might be issues with 64-bit. However it did not change anything. This new install does the same.

When you talk about "RAM mode" is that "Fresh mode"? And how do I start fresh mode without modules loaded? I have only 1 fresh mode option in my boot menu...

Thanks.

what file system are you using? I guess ntfs or xfs. Try ext4 and you will not miss it! :)
Porteus is proud of the FASTEST KDE ever made.....(take akonadi, nepomuk and soprano out and you will have a decent OS).

Please try to boot up using 'Porteus into RAM' mode which will use your machine's RAM to store Porteus data, this should be best in case of slow device.

I'm currently in Fresh Mode (I have no "RAM mode" afaiks). Perhaps that will work better. Not a permanent option though as I require to save data. I have a very fast SSD disk so the difference can't be speed diff disk<->ram. I'll try EXT4 (using xfs now I think).
