How to get my settings into Memory version of Porteus

Post#1 by mlhend2002 » 01 Jan 2013, 15:31

I swear this is my last question today..maybe haha

I have all of my wanted modules loading for both running off usb stick and in memory launch. But my setting are not loading for memory load version. I tried to copy porteus.cfg to porteus\rootcopy but this didn't help.

Thanks again,

Mark

ps, I'm really done with questions for today..have a great New year!

by 'memory launch' i assume you mean 'copy to ram'
if this is really the case then please edit porteus.cfg and add your 'changes=' cheatcode to copy2ram section like here:

Code: Select all

MENU LABEL Copy To RAM
KERNEL vmlinuz
APPEND initrd=initrd.xz copy2ram changes=/porteus/porteussave.dat
Please add [Solved] to your thread title if the solution was found.

I did the changes you suggested above. I then imported bookmarks into Mozilla browser and changed my homepage. after doing this, saved the porteussave.dat in the location you suggested. At bootup the porteussave.dat is recognized and is shown as healthy. But after I login, the mozilla bookmarks are gone again and my homepage is changed back. Help!

thanks,

Mark

Ok, I was able to get my Mozilla Browser settings to save by exporting my session settings to a module called changes in proteus/modules. Worked like a charm!

@Mark
you should boot into 'Always fresh' -> create porteussave.dat -> edit porteus.cfg with 'changes=/porteus/porteussave.dat' -> reboot
from now on your changes will be stored in porteussave.dat and not earlier.
