turne the new usb bootable

Hi,

I have just bought a usb drive HP V220w to install porteus live usb.

So I have extracted the porteus v1.1 x86_64 to the root, and then I have run lin_start here to make it bootable, unfortunaly, if I do by syslinux way for fat32 or by lilo for every filesystem, the usb drive is not bootable because it has not been flaged as bootable from any partition editor.
And when I want to flag the drive, booth gparted and kde partitions are unable to read this usb partition. And last timeI had this issue, I had to run gparted from ubuntu 8.04 witch is now too hold to run into the computer.

How can we make new usb drive bootable please? I have only windows 7 64 bits witch isn't abble to turn the key bootable and is unable to change flash device's partition set up. Even to flag partition as bootable.
And a live cd of porteus 1.1 x86_64 witch gparted fail to read this usb drive and say that there is no partition table into the volum of -173627363636353534343 Byte instead of +8000000000 Byte of fat32, and don't want to acces to sdc1 to flag it.

how can we be abble to know if flashdrive can be bootable while we haven't albready purchassed it?

thank you and I wishe you an happy new year.

There is no way (must be confirmed) to know if it's really boot-able before tried to boot on. You have posted into the wrong section of the forum. Newbie questions would be more appropriate for this question which is good. Maybe we'll add this question to our faq if it got answered correctly :)

@blablotin

please show me output of 'fdisk -l' when usb is plugged in.
also - why Porteus-1.1?
please try 2.0 rc1 as it has new installer.

From windows 7 doesn't diskpart work for flagging a partition as bootable?
diskpart
Select Disk 0
ACTIVE

In any case since you are running linux_start_here you must be on a linux box. Just use cfdisk /dev/sdc and mark it bootable.

Hi fanthom

Sory for the mistake, it was 1.2. Since it is not for my PC, I prefere to use stable version.

fdisk -l say http://pastebin.com/qgNNvW1n

@ brokenman
I leave cfdisk with this state http://pastebin.com/dA14RQ6K
running lin_start_here and rebooting.

edit
It work!
But this time I used syslinux from previous version instead of extlinux for the fat system.

thanks guys
