Krusader

I have been trying to install Krusder on the 32 bit version of Porteus 1.2. From Slacky it downloads and converts (seems to think the dependencies are satisfied), the package is read and inserted - but Krusader does not run. Under the command line (and in Slackyd -d) it tells me that there are missing libraries libaudio.so.2.4 and several other libraries like this. I have tried installing them one by one (from another PC running KDE 3.5 under Hardy), I just keep getting requests for more missing libraries. When trying to install another package from elsewhere (perhaps Debian) it tells me that KDE is not properly installed. I have tried installing the kdebase-3.5.10-i486-3 package under Slackware 12.2. My machine boots up and the screen goes black (no KDE desktop), so I can't tell whether that would have provided the missing libraries or not. I would like to add my request to that of others in the "must have software" section for Krusader and its add ons. Please let me know if there is an easy package solution to installing it myself. Perhaps there is only a need to fix the black screen on startup.
Thanks, Anjon

Porteus 1.2 (32bit) standard does not use KDE as such. This project has been replaced by TDE (Trinity Desktop Environment) and many of the paths were altered. This means krusader will need to be compiled under TDE and perhaps some of the source has been edited to suit. I will try to compile it shortly.

----
EDIT:
Compile failed under current TDE. When i rebuild Trinity for Porteus 2 i will try again. I believe the Trinity team have converted almost everything to cmake now so things should run smother.

@anjon
if you must have krusader, you will have to switch to the official KDE4 in 64 bits, or to the extra kde4 edition reserved for 32 bits machines of recent vintage. This is my snapshot of this application

This 32-bit module can be downloade from here: http://www.mediafire.com/?m9an3hd815kblf7

@brokenman
I we don't do it, slax 7 will soon :wink:

Nice that you bring that tool to porteus. I did not knew about it. :oops:

According to wikipedia (french):
Krusader
Krusader is an advanced file manager designed for KDE. It comes with double panels that resemble Midnight Commander or Total Commander. However, it has a lot more functionalities. Amongst them: archives are treated like folders, it contains a ftp client, informs about the disk mounts, and permits comparison of file contents. :)

Thanks for that info. I was wondering what the relationship between TDE and KDE 3.5 was. I succeeded in running Krusader with the KDE4 modules under my 32 bit machine - but it takes ages to boot up. Once running it seems to respond quite quickly. I will be very happy if you can compile it to run under TDE in the next release as the boot up time is important for me.

@francois,

That would be even more useful to provides english page because some others users interested by this subject would read this topic. If they see that some pages are not in English, they will be lost.

Here is the english version:
