Is there anything else you have to do besides loading the 03gnome xzm module in optional folder? Then boot always fresh with load=03gnome.xzm?

You don’t have to load the entire .iso right?

its looking like xfce and cinnamon would be good. just wanted to try gnome

I would load it to the /modules folder then no load= needed. If /optional used load= might need to include load=/optional/003-*.

BTW From one of my boot menus:

Code: Select all

noload=kde;jinn;lxqt;xfce;lxde;mate;open;dat.xzm;mychanges;autonet
:D

load=/optional/003-*.
just load=003-gnome .. "/optional/" path is not needed for modules in optional (and yes noload=003-kde is needed to exclude it if it's in /base)
as Ed says, you can just put 003-gnome in /modules (or /base) and just use noload=

see also: extramod=/path/to/folder/of/modules to load a folder(can be anywhere) of modules

Ya have to start out as always fresh mode or it screws up the desktop. My impression is gnome is its a nice flavor text looks subtle and its a good desktop. Not good for configuring your system as the menus are annoying for switching directories.

Once you have everything setup with porteus then gnome is a nice boot in and enjoy your system desktop. Its also faster than X11. more responsive.
