(abiword installation) could not detect the boost libraries (version 1.40 or higher)

Post#1 by baloontravel » 14 Apr 2023, 05:10

When installing abiword with sbopkg I receive a message about missing boost libraries.
checking for boostlib >= 1.40.0... configure: We could not detect the boost libraries (version 1.40 or higher). If you have a staged boost library (still not installed) please specify $BOOST_ROOT in your environment and do not give a PATH to --with-boost option. If you are sure you have boost installed, then check your version number looking in <boost/version.hpp>. See http://randspringer.de/boost for more documentation.
configure: error: `boost' not found
I need program to read and edit .doc files.
If there is smaller than Abiword alternative it would be great.

I haven't try ted. But like its description. Is it possible to use ted with addons/convertions to edit .doc documents?

Try getmod instead of sbopkg. Run a getmod -u to update the database then a getmod -s abiword.

Also check this thread: 80+ modules available (Post by funghost #93327)

Thanks, this iso has lots of what I try to achieve as an endgoal. :D

He replaced Abiword with Libreoffice so probably there are reasons to use it instead.

Good to have slapt-get when you need some program right away.
But it is less fun if you want to know how another distro works.

Good! I was able to install Abiword.
Abiword stated clearly at launch it requires libwv and libgsf-1, so I easilly solved this.
Thanks, another great resource.

I have space, but I also like to keep system slim and miminal.
Previously abiword haven't worked for me because of some glitches I wasn't able to solve, few years passed since so I will give it another try.
Besides size Abiword has onother advantage - emacs and vi mode keys.
