Porteus on Surface Pro 4 touchscreen only

Post#1 by alharthi6 » 27 Feb 2023, 04:39

Hello,
Did any one use porteus on Surface pro 4?
I’ve only touch screen no mouse or keyboard.
How to use for vertaul or onboard or onscreen keyboard please?
Also I need it to login to toot user?
Can I make or skip the login to toot user directly with logging to guest the logout then login to toot by entering root user again and again, I want it to be root user entered as default then I just type password!
And how to activate or make the Wi-Fi working?
Finally, how to make the touch working?
I’ve followed a github guide but it’s for Ubuntu, Debian, fedora and arch systems.
Could I make it for Porteus pls?
Github guide and kernels are here

With more info about your hardware, like sudo lspci, lsmod and the /var/logXorg.o.log some drivers could be suggested. But try this version: PorteuX - The Next Experience. It has a lot of drivers built in.

You can request to neko so that the kernel on Porteus can support Microsoft Surface Porteus Kernel Builder
Sorry, my English is bad.

An impressive series of commands Blaze. :happy62: You should make it a script and add it to Porteus as NuHardware.sh for users to use when they get new computers and need some help.

That wireless-info app is insane, the amt of info it reports.

Porteus on Surface Pro 4 touchscreen only

hi alharthi6 ,the kernel version that you have don't match a lot with your device, maybe is better to upgrade to porteus 5.01 that have the 6.5.5 kernel if you don't want to upgrade all the system you can grab the vmlinuz and the 000-kernel from the 5.01 version, and also the crippled kernel source,ok maybe blaze have some better hint.

Also how to use Bluetooth on Porteus?
be sure to use the cheatcode: bluetooth to start the bluetooth daemon(read more about cheatcodes in <install_media>/boot/docs/cheatcodes.txt)
of course, this won't help if your hardware requires some missing driver or firmware.

Hi alharthi6, I use this howto https://github.com/linux-surface/linux- ... i/Compilin
Not sure about success (reade notes). You are need to update kernel.

Porteus on Surface Pro 4 touchscreen only

Post#14 by Blaze » 22 Jan 2024, 18:45

Code: Select all

# All operations must be performed as root user!

# replace 000-kernel.xzm
# remove crippled_sources.xzm
# Optionally add 06-crippled_sources-NNN-XXbit.xzm
/path-to/porteus/base

# replace vmlinuz
/path-to/boot/syslinux

# reboot Porteus
It's for all surface devices.

I applied successfully all patches for surface but I stuck on the kernel config cuz my options for surface are dropped via make menuconfig or after compilation.
