Post the output of a cat command on your blacklist and config files that you've changed. And run the cat command from you /home/guest folder so the terminal shows the location of the files.

Also, when I try to perform the insmod command on the cfg80211.ko file - and I get the error "Unknown Symbol" I'm wondering if Porteus developers have a debugging platform which gives them more precise information about that error?
I get the same insmod error with Porteus 5.0.

Code: Select all

root@porteus:/home/guest# insmod /lib/modules/5.18.8-porteus/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/broadcom/b43/b43.ko
insmod: ERROR: could not insert module /lib/modules/5.18.8-porteus/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/broadcom/b43/b43.ko: Unknown symbol in module
root@porteus:/home/guest# ls -oh /lib/modules/5.18.8-porteus/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/broadcom/

However - isn't it the case that the Kernel-v3 may be different than the Kernel-v4 - such that the module compatible with Kernel-v3 may not be compatible with Kernel-v4 ?
Anything is possible with Linux, including running Porteus 5.0 on your old 64 bit system.

There may also be the same driver file for ubuntu - and perhaps the Porteus developers have a utility which will convert a ubuntu module to make it compatible with a Porteus kernel?
To the best of my knowledge, which isn't saying much, Ubuntu isn't Slackware based so it's drivers wouldn't be compatible.

I tried to run my Porteus 3.2.2 ISO on my Dell but it's not compatible with the hardware and doesn't boot. Most of my old hardware got distrubuted during the covid lock downs.

Hey Ed - GOOD NEWS!
Its working now!

I was digging around in some other Porteus posts having to do with Broadcom and came across a user who said the blacklist file for him - needed to be named b43_blacklist.conf rather than broadcom_blacklist.conf

So I figured easy enough to try!
And low and behold it works!!
I rebooted and checked the network icon and there was the wifi signals
From there it was simply the normal process of entering wifi credentials and the rest is history!

Porteus 4.16 already has built-in driver support for the 80211 BCM43224 driver needed for the Dell 1520 Half-Size PCIe wifi card.

YEA!!!
My very sincere thanks!!!!
