porteus v5 32bit - first "impact" as a beginner
Hey guys!.
I managed to install Porteus V5 32bit.
Questions ... as a beginner:
1) A GUI package manager? (I tried usm but it says it is not compatible with the version of porteus installed .........)
2) how do I manage the forms?
* I managed to put in "Modules" are Firefox 104 (and it is always present at startup ...)
* trying to download different application tzg modules (like vlc, abiword, libreoffice ...)
and they don't even leave! whether you run them "on the spot" (in any folder) or are present in modules or options
3) how can I customize the Gub2 bootloader?

Hello alino74. Welcome to the forum.
What forms are you referring to?? If you mean forums, you are doing fine.
What Grub2 menu are you referring to? Can you post it? (add code tags {</>} around it)

boost-compat
icu4c-compat

this is a sample, download the package from slackware or another repos: in console with the su or sudo txz2xzm -x audacious-4.1-i586-3.txz and after you have a xzm package that you put in modules

Run Porteus the best way we can.
Try to autoconfigure graphics
card and use the maximum allowed
you have this on porteus config and when you boot is the first line, you have to make a directory named changes into the porteus root, when you do something that change configuration of a only-read system all the changes you can make are on changes directory, but 32 bit system is a bit slow libreoffice size is too big well make a changes directory and start to do your tweak when you reboot you have all the tweak ready to use.

hi, vlc 64 or 32 bit need a lot of deps if you want to try.. open a console and write vlc and enter,if your software do not start the
console or terminal give you an answer.

When it does not start, most probably there are some dependencies missing.
Open a terminal and look where the binary to the program that fails to start sits.
Say, the binary is called vlc and it sits in /usr/bin - so that the full path to the binary is /usr/bin/vlc - the do this:
Code: Select all
ldd /usr/bin/vlc | grep "not found"
Could be that when you create several modules for these libraries - or one larger module for all dependencies for your vlc in one singe module - after activating all these dependencies as well, you have to run
Code: Select all
ldd /usr/bin/vlc | grep "not found"
I know, using usm was more easy, but the one who coded it was not able to do so any longer - it is a very complex program, like I explained above, sometimes dependencies need more dependencies, and from these 2nd level dependencies some need additional 3rd level dependencies…
But… usm had its downsides as well.
Say, a needed single library is not available as a package for the library itself but only as one file in a much larger package with dozens of other libraries and maybe even programs - then usm would suggest one or more packages that contain your needed library - but remember, you not really need any of these complete packages, for your one program you would only need the one single library (and its symlinks) - so usm often creates dependencies automatically that are much larger than you really need.
And that drives down the efficiency of Porteus. Automated tools are not always better than done manually by an expert (usually the expert is more efficient), but an automated tool is very helpful for a beginner.
Cheers!

hi alino74 shure you have downloaded the i686 version,if you have a 32 bit system you can't download the x86_64 packages, and you have the limit of 4 giga of memory that you can use...

Maybe look into this: slapt-get: slapt-get is an APT like system for Slackware package management.
Cheers!
