Additionally;
Booting with UEFI now has different results.

UEFI will either-
boot fine. perfect resolution, and x works
or, UEFI will
boot TERRIBLY!!! it does the udev stuff when opening both text mode and graphic mode, then the display shuts off and all i see are black pixels. It is good to note that the black pixels are not off, they are on, but they are all just black.
However, linux is actually running, just without a display being used. i was able to log in and type "poweroff" using muscle memory.

In your APPEND boot parms try adding reboot=cold .

Can you replace kernel to 6.6.18
This one boots fine for me both in Porteux/Nemesis (AMD Ryzen 7/Renoir gpu). Thanks!

Adding reboot=cold didnt do anything, unfortunately.

If you are running in the Always Fresh mode the only thing that changes between boots is RAM. The hardware doesn't change, the software doesn't change, the OS doesn't change. That's why using the reboot=cold cheatcode is useful and should be used everytime to help debug booting problems.

FWIW - I see the use of an emmc drive here in your kernel cheatcodes, such as using FROM= to boot an iso?

I've used Porteus on a variety of machines that have a cheap emmc, usually with Windows pre-installed.

Over the years, I've learned to totally ignore emmc usage under Linux and stick to quality usb or other drives. I got sick of the random quirks of the low-end hardware dealing with emmc. So not only do I not use it, but for dedicated Linux boxes, I disable it in bios if I can. Unless you like chasing down acpi timings, and even then, it's not worth it to me. Cuts down on one large variable to be sure. :)
That's a UNIX book - cool. -Garth
