Xfce 4.12 (for Porteus 5 RC2)

Here is a place for your projects which are not officially supported by the Porteus Team. For example: your own kernel patched with extra features; desktops not included in the standard ISO like Gnome; base modules that are different than the standard ISO, etc...

Xfce 4.12 (for Porteus 5 RC2)

Post#1 by fulalas » 05 Nov 2020, 06:24

This is the old Xfce 4.12. I'm only providing this because this version is faster than 4.14, and it has almost all the same features. I'm including all Porteus changes that was shipped in RC2, including dark theme, elementaty icons, etc.

Known issues:
- Whisker menu isn't working removed

(14.1 MB)

Trying it now and it's pretty good, definitely lighter in usage than Xfce-4.14. But LXQt beats both for boot times by around half.

Getting this error for Celluloid:

Code: Select all

guest@porteus:~$ celluloid

(io.github.celluloid_player.Celluloid:1461): GLib-GIO-ERROR **: 08:05:45.208: Settings schema 'io.github.celluloid-player.Celluloid.window-state' does not contain a key named 'maximized'
Trace/breakpoint trap
Running glib-compile-schemas /usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas fixes it.

is Whisker menu the standard menu for 5.0rc2?

@rava, whisker menu is not the standard menu on Porteus since version 4.0.

It's smaller because we moved somethings to 002-extra.

Hmm..mediafire says
Uploaded: 2021-01-12 22:16:30

I got this one: [md5sum]
f8494554c2ac62b72a8257aefb581f1c 003-xfce-4.12-20210112.xzm

Is this the new module?

Providing md5 sums would be really helpful. ;)

Xfce 4.12 (for Porteus 5 RC2)

Currently on my i586 machine, so could not run the module itself.

Code: Select all

root@porteus:~# mloop /mnt/sda3/tmp/003-xfce-4.12-20210112.xzm
[…]
Here is a list of the files:
etc home opt	root usr var

root@porteus:~# cat /mnt/loop/etc/porteus/003-xfce4.ver
003-xfce4.xzm:20200718
Shouldn't /etc/porteus/003-xfce4.ver read more like

Code: Select all

root@porteus:~# cat /mnt/loop/etc/porteus/003-xfce4.ver
003-xfce4.xzm:20210112
That can be done via scripting. Presuming $MODULEFOLDER is the folder with the files and folders to be dir2xzm'd just add prior the dir2xzm this:

Code: Select all

echo $(date +%Y%m%d) > ${MODULEFOLDER}/etc/porteus/003-xfce4.ver
:Rose:
Cheers!
