Cinnamon 4.4.5 for Porteus 5.0rc1

Here is a place for your projects which are not officially supported by the Porteus Team. For example: your own kernel patched with extra features; desktops not included in the standard ISO like Gnome; base modules that are different than the standard ISO, etc...

:o Thank you jssouza. :good:

Quick question.

Code: Select all

guest@porteus:~$ cinnamon --version
Cinnamon 4.4.5

guest@porteus:~$ ls -l /mnt/live/memory/images
total 0
drwxr-xr-x 5 root root 61 Dec 16 11:07 000-kernel.xzm/
drwxrwxrwt 20 root root 305 Dec 16 11:02 001-core.xzm/
drwxr-xr-x 9 root root 131 Dec 16 11:12 002-xorg.xzm/
drwxr-xr-x 11 root root 141 Jan 5 2019 003-Jinnamon-20191224.xzm/
drwxr-xr-x 7 root root 82 Sep 2 19:37 07-printing-x86_64-2019-09-02.xzm/
drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 37 Sep 8 18:30 firefox-60.9.0esr-x86_64-en-US-1.xzm/
drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 56 Nov 13 17:18 flashplayer-plugin-32.0.0.293-x86_64-1.xzm/
drwxr-xr-x 5 root root 64 Nov 11 06:11 jre-8u231-x86_64-1.xzm/
drwxr-xr-x 7 root root 71 Dec 19 17:45 mychanges.xzm/
guest@porteus:~$
Why does the 20191224 Jinnamon module (yes I renamed it) show with a date of Jan 5 2019? :%)

-update-

If I right click on Firefox in the Menu>Internet menu it opens but doesn't give me the option to add it to the task bar. :%)

Cinnamon 4.4.5 for Porteus 5.0rc1

Post#8 by jssouza » 25 Dec 2019, 06:30

And the base modules? Have we not talked about this?
I'd suggest you read about creation dates. Why do you think we have the module version explicitly set in /etc/porteus when we could have just extracted it out of an ls -l?

An excellent question.

Code: Select all

guest@porteus:~$ cat /etc/porteus/*
001-core.xzm:20190609
002-xorg.xzm:20190609
003-cinnamon.xzm:20191224
initrd.xz:20190224
guest@porteus:~$
001-core and 002-xorg's dates in /etc/porteus/ and ls -l match. Cinnamon's doesn't. And you're right, I have no idea why we have the /etc/porteus modules. Where do you recommend I read about creation dates? Is it just for Porteus or Linux as a whole?

BTW Merry Christmas. :santa:
