Xfce x64 module updated

Here is a place for your projects which are not officially supported by the Porteus Team. For example: your own kernel patched with extra features; desktops not included in the standard ISO like Gnome; base modules that are different than the standard ISO, etc...

I presume there is no NVidia module for 4.20.1 kernel of Porteus-XFCE-v4.0 x86_64?

I might try updating my Port 4.0, and when it runs okay, create a 010-nvidia-340.107-for-k4.20.1-Porteus-v4.0-x86_64_rav.xzm … if anyone would be interested at all, that is.
So either PM me or reply in this thread if you want me to create the module, so be aware tomorrow I am offline for the whole day. Unless some WLAN in the high speed trains, but I cannot create any such modules with my Android smartphone in the trains. ;)
Cheers!

@Rava
I will study your NVidia module for 4.20 kernel of Porteus-XFCE-v4.0 x86_64.

(But, sorry, I have no NVidia. So I can not test.)

Thanks.

I never tried building a NVidia module on a machine that has no nvidia card, but your post gave me just this idea, I never tested if the software that compiles the nvidia driver actually looks for nvidia GPU hardware at all. Maybe it doesn't do that, and one can compile any nvidia driver, as long as one runs the right Linux kernel with nouveau blacklisted and the kernel sources and compiler and whatnot activated. :D
Maybe donald or Blaze know the answer to this little tiny enigma. :)
Cheers!

@Rava

[my study report]
1. get Rava's module.
010-nvidia-340.107-for-k4.20.0-Porteus-x86_64_rav.xzm
https://mega.nz/#!kp9gSYoR!-29QbrUphACK ... UoVhpm3wLk

2. change directory name from 4.20.0-porteus to 4.20.1-porteus.

3. strip man and doc.

4. change directory placement from slackware style to archlinux style.
/usr/lib64 ----> /usr/lib
/lib ----> /usr/lib

5. update kernel of nemesis xfce 18.12.17 to 4.20.1.

7. change /etc/X11/xorg.conf to /etc/X11/nvidia-xorg.conf.

6. insert nvidia module into nemesis xfce 18.12.17 kernel 4.20.1.

nemesis-xfce-18.12.17-k4.20.1-x86_64.iso (435 M)

7. execute nvidia-settings in the nemesis running environment.
A setting GUI windown displayed.

Thanks.

Seriously? You have been able to apply the NVidia kernel driver for Kernel 4.20.0 to a system with Kernel 4.20.1 and it works? :shock:

That's... I never heard even once that this is possible. Is the trick really to only to adjust folder name or folder names?

Or is it in this case that 4.20.0 and 4.20.1 are treated by the Nvidia driver both as 4.20.* and therefore its working?

Update
neko, does it say in Tab XScreen 0 ➤ OpenGL/GLX Information ➤ Direct rendering: no or does it say XScreen 0 ➤ OpenGL/GLX Information ➤ Direct rendering: yes?
Cheers!
