INfO Changed the thread title since "My [whatever]" way is less informative than "jack's [whatever]"

Downloaded them all... but currently I am on a 32 bit machine, so it will at least take some hours until I can check these out and give you some heads up...

I presume just using 000-kernel.xzm 001-core.xzm 002-xorg.xzm from the "official" iso, e.g. from the Porteus-XFCE-v4.0rc4-x86_64.iso is working as well?

The thread title change is OK with me. I should have did that but I didn't think.

I don't have a 32bit Computer or I would have built that version to.

I just rebuilt brokenman ISO with out a Desktop to make the ISO a little smaller to try and help for download time.

You can run and create 32 bit Porteus or any other Linux on a x86-64 machine just fine... just the other way round, trying to run a x86-64 bit Linux on a 32 bit only machine will not work... *nudge nudge* :D

When I get time and download the needed files I will build them. That way I can help both 32 and 64 bits Porteus 4.0 OS.

I just thought I will need to build a 32 bit Porteus 4.0 USB to use brokenman script file.

I hope my Porteus 4.0 project Desktop builds work because I won't be able to help much. I am not that smart but I will try to help.

Sorry I can't remember but I need to start taking notes. I know the last thing was the wallpaper. I all ready delete the old xfce4 module.

I am losing my short term memory.

At least creating XZM modules works fine, I created lots of 32 bit modules running x86-64 Porteus, and also created 64 bit modules when running a 32 bit machine / running on 32 bit Porteus.

When it comes to compiling, not just creating modules out of, say, slackware packages (that are pre-compiled), you would need to add the 32 bit dependencies libraries to your x86-64 System...
At least I think so, I was acting like the devil avoiding holy water. In my case it was: keep my Porteus on x86-64 machines pure 64 bit, and not use any software that would need the puny 32 compatibility libraries...
So far, that worked out okay. Sometimes it is annoying when a certain library a program needs seems to be only available in 32 bit…

System: 8 Core "Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU Q 720 @ 1.60GHz", 4GB of RAM, 2824 of swap (zram and swapfile)
Should be sufficient in running Porteus/Lxde...

Sadly, lxde fails loading:

Code: Select all

guest@porteus:~$ startlxde
** Message: main.vala:102: Session is LXDE
** Message: main.vala:103: DE is LXDE

(lxsession:1236): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display:

00[0-2]*xzm are all from Porteus-XFCE-v4.0rc4-x86_64.iso

When I ran LXDE I did it in Graphics mode and Always fresh but I didn't try Text mode. Sorry but I do not know how to fix it. I am not that smart.

EDIT

I just thought of something to start LXDE in Text mode is type slim. I think that will work.
