Porteus Kernel Builder

Here is a place for your projects which are not officially supported by the Porteus Team. For example: your own kernel patched with extra features; desktops not included in the standard ISO like Gnome; base modules that are different than the standard ISO, etc...

Porteus Kernel Builder

Post#306 by raja » 03 Apr 2018, 17:48

Neko,

Intel has released new intel-ucode file dated 03/15/2018, version-0x84. I am usng this and face no problem. Even, the condemned earlier version was giving me trouble free performance. Ofcource, I compiled v4.15.7 with 'CONFIG options selected for Microcode injection.

You may, hence please do effect changes to your proto CONFIG file.

Now, I hear about a project for, "Linux Kernel Runtime Guard" -LKRG.

I tried to build the module in Porteus, but faced code errors. In Aporteus, we miss links to "build" and "src".

You may try and if, successful can share the module.

http://www.openwall.com/lkrg/

http://openwall.info/wiki/p_lkrg/Main

I tried with v0.2
Thanks
Linux Kernel-4.4.272 -32 bit; Linux Kernel-5.4.185 - 64 bit

@neko 4.16 is very slow at boot. Going back to 4.15.14

Anyone else with this problem?

Cheers!

--------------------------------------------------------------------
1. @raja
(1) Intel CPU problem
I think that it doesn't finish yet.
Therefore, I don't modify the example of kernel config about the problem.
If you need it, please do by yourself.

(2)missing links to "build" and "src".
/usr/lib/modules/NNNN-porteus/build
and
/usr/lib/modules/NNNN-porteus/source
are symbolic linked to /usr/src/linux.
crippled_sources-NNNN-MMbit.xzm includes /usr/src/linux entity.
Full kernel source can be gotten by "Kernel Builder".

(3)LKRG
I didn't know LKRG.
I will study it.

Thanks.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
2. @M. Eerie
["4.16 is very slow at boot" problem]
I tried 4.16 on my PC environment.
The result was not slow at boot.

You can compare sample configs of 4.16 and 4.15 :
/usr/local/share/mkKernel/lib/v4.15/NNbit.config
/usr/local/share/mkKernel/lib/v4.16/NNbit.config
that are included in mkKernel-18.04.03-noarch-1.xzm.

Now, new version 4.16.1 & 4.15.16 example are being builded.
At the finish, I will upload these.

Thanks.

The latest mainline version of the Linux kernel 4.17-rc1 was released.

Now my net environment is very bad.
I can't download the source file.

Please try to build 4.17-rc1 kernel by yourself with refering 4.16 tools (in /usr/local/share/mkKernel/lib/v4.16).

Thanks.

(2) AUFS patch is not yet ready for 4.17-rc.
4.x-rcN-20180409 was used.
And the deleted function "open_check_o_direct()" in "fs/open.c" was copied from one of 4.16-2.

Code: Select all

int open_check_o_direct(struct file *f)
{
	/* NB: we're sure to have correct a_ops only after f_op->open */
	if (f->f_flags & O_DIRECT) {
		if (!f->f_mapping->a_ops || !f->f_mapping->a_ops->direct_IO)
			return -EINVAL;
	}
	return 0;
}

Porteus Kernel Builder

Post#315 by neko » 19 Apr 2018, 06:41

@M. Eerie
"very slow at boot" problem occurs on APorteus with kernel 4.17-rc1.

1.Power on and boot; ...normal speed.
2.Then reboot;..... next boot not start sometimes.
3.Then Power off.
Then Power on and boot; ...normal speed.

Thanks.
