Porteus Kernel Builder

Here is a place for your projects which are not officially supported by the Porteus Team. For example: your own kernel patched with extra features; desktops not included in the standard ISO like Gnome; base modules that are different than the standard ISO, etc...

@peebee
I could not build your AUFS kernel 5.9.1 that could run in Porteus 5.0rc2.
Would you upload the 64 bit "lib and vmlinuz" of kernel 5.9.n that can be used for Porteus 5.0rc2 ?

Thanks.

Hi @neko

Good to see you back....

Have sent you a PM with a link to kernel 5.9.1

What problems did you have building a 5.9 kernel? @maia seems to have been successful?

Tested by swapping the kernel in Porteus-LXDE-v5.0rc2-x86_64.iso

Cheers

@peebee
Thank you for your response mail.

I checked the difference of your result and my result.
It caused from kernel configuration difference.

1.Peebee config result
The Porteus-OPENBOX-v5.0rc2-x86_64.iso that
was replaced with vmlinuz and 000-kernel.xzm of peebee.conf.tar.xz,
did run successful

peebee.conf.tar.xz (92 M)
http://www.mediafire.com/file/8vt43hsb9 ... onf.tar.xz
md5sum: f58c643553c3504019761be06736d4ef peebee.conf.tar.xz

2.Neko config result
The Porteus-OPENBOX-v5.0rc2-x86_64.iso that
was replaced with vmlinuz and 000-kernel.xzm of neko.conf.tar.xz,
stopped during boot.
^ creating live filesystem and inserting modules
-> 000-kernel.xzm
-> 001-core.xzm
Killed
-> 002-xorg.xzm
neko.conf.tar.xz (76 M)
http://www.mediafire.com/file/x4g4670ug ... onf.tar.xz
md5sum: 03838b49939ff23cb3966987d8c94510 neko.conf.tar.xz

I will check more detail what items of kernel config have issues.
And I will report those when I will know the items.
(It will need many times kernel build, so it will take enough time.)

Thanks.

@neko,
What are peebee.conf.tar.xz and neko.conf.tar.xz, do they contain vmlinuz, 000-kernel.xzm and 06-crippled_sources.xzm?
Sorry, my English is bad.

I would think they only contain the files mentioned.

I am currently using version 5.9.2 and working. (eventually crashes pcmanfm, but I open it again and it works)

01 applied the patches provided by peebee + make clean && make mrproper + oldconfig (creating previously with localmodconfig for the modules and local hardware)

[]s :)

babam, what is mean RES?
Ok, restricted version ("Only basic patches" patching was done.)

I think what would be a great help for the users including info to which kernel with a used compiler like the named above fits to which exiting Porteus distro, even experimental ones.

I would try a kernel if I knew it would work with 5.0x1 or 5.0xy of my already installed Porteus versions.
Adding the info would be very helpful, and creating kernels that work with existing Porteus versions by choosing the exact same compiler version would also help.

(maybe even run the created kernel in the very Porteus one thought it should work with also helps)
Cheers!
Yours Rava

@Blaze
Yes, Restricted version (Only basic patches)

@Rava
All versions of Porteus can use the kernel created by Blaze.
I even use it for Porteus 3.2.2 and it works great.
