Porteus Kernel Builder

Here is a place for your projects which are not officially supported by the Porteus Team. For example: your own kernel patched with extra features; desktops not included in the standard ISO like Gnome; base modules that are different than the standard ISO, etc...

Thanks blaze, for adding i2c HID support in the kernel, again.

Touchpad works.

I tested your new kernel with neko's overlay version of porteus-5.0rc2.

Code: Select all

What is this "can't open blockdev" error? Booting was perfect, and kernel modules are loaded.

neko/blaze,

Though these are not considered as 'errors' by kernel, considerable time is lost.. in this case, 5-6 seconds, with current kernels, with aufs patch.

raja, seems this is issue of your drive.
Try to check your drive via e2fsck or fsck on errors (badblocks).

BTW on the next Porteus RC3 x86_64 I don't have messages with loop or can't open blockdev.

I want to feel it soon, hopefully in RC3 there will be many surprises.

blaze,

That partition is in ext4 and older kernels don't give out these kind of messages.

Found a message in the net, about similar complaint long ago.

The offending file is "/fs/block_dev.c

If you store the source tree for k-5.4.xx series and k-5.12.xx series , please compare for difference. That may be causing these error messages.

May be replacing the file from 5.4 series may solve this problem. It is only about "rescan" of said devices, and don't matter.

A old patch I found went like this..
Yes, it is harmless. The order was changed between
rescan_partitions() and bd_set_size() - rescan_partitions() checked
for size change too and it resulted in simpler condition checks.
However, rescan_partitions() triggers the above message when it
detects size change unlike the silient bd_set_size().
Does the following patch remove the messages for you?
Yes - messages are gone with this patch applied.

raja, look at this https://pastebin.com/KpTryrBc :book:
# In Kernel 5.4.57 is not have these options:

As I said before need to test it on Porteus RC3 or you can try to manual update ZSTD:

Code: Select all

removepkg zstd
installpkg /tmp/zstd-1.5.0-x86_64-1.txz
reboot

zstd-1.5.0, probably requires updated GLIBC to version 2.33.

Let me wait or the whole update of porteus to rc3. thanks, blaze.

Porteus Kernel Builder

Post#1301 by raja » 17 Jun 2021, 08:22

blaze, I made kernel-5.4.126, using neko's fantastic tool yesterday, and used in porteus-5.0rc2.

As expected no block device errors. So disk is okay. As you said, zstd code in kernel, in later kernels, is listing those errors, in rc2.

Hi neko.

Not bad if you update kernel-firmwares from Slackware-current repo in you next update of "Kernel Builder".

Thanks.
