Porteus Kernel Builder

Here is a place for your projects which are not officially supported by the Porteus Team. For example: your own kernel patched with extra features; desktops not included in the standard ISO like Gnome; base modules that are different than the standard ISO, etc...

Yes, it would be a great help!
Thanks in advance
Let us do the following: you try compiling NVIDIA 340.108 x64 Driver using the 5.4.24 kernel.
If that works, you have a newer kernel than me. That is a better choice.
You should upload the NVIDIA 340.108 x64 Driver module so others can use it as well.

If it fails (like my attempt compiling the NV 304.137 for 5.4.19 kernel failed so far… ) I will upload the 5.4.19 kernel sans the 05-devel, cause I already compiled and uploaded the NVIDIA 304.108 x64 Driver and it works as it should running 5.4.19 kernel.

Sounds like a plan to you?

Dear Blaze please provide me with 05-devel.xzm
meanwhile, (Experiment. Applied GCC plugins) means that it is experimental or customized for specific purpose? May I use it as well to compile?

I hope it compiles okay. For now I am at a loss as what can be done to get the 304.108 to compile.
Cheers!

@Rava seems that for 05-devel.xzm is not available for 5.4.24 kernel, could you please share your working kernel and its 05.devel.xzm to me?

I start uploading it, hopefully my standard uploader "abload.de" accepts files as large as the kernel one tar archive.

I will reply here when I managed to upload it somewhere.
Cheers!

As teaser (we do not want to get bored in times where we all should stay at home 24/7, now, do we?) here the md5sums in advance:

Code: Select all

d4499dbc0320c2fa1d60932216728cf7 05-devel_5.0rc1_k5.4.19.xzm
91ea46e5a26ae2f311c256389e6aa352 64bit-ALL-kernel5.4.19.tar
And the file sizes:

Code: Select all

# ls -l 05-devel_5.0rc1_k5.4.19.xzm 64bit-ALL-kernel5.4.19.tar |cut -c 24-
101957632 Feb 8 07:35 05-devel_5.0rc1_k5.4.19.xzm
 96184320 Feb 12 07:48 64bit-ALL-kernel5.4.19.tar
And what's in the tar archive:

Code: Select all

# tar -tvvf 64bit-ALL-kernel5.4.19.tar
-rw-r--r-- root/root 68538368 2020-02-12 07:37 000-kernel.xzm
-rw-r--r-- root/root 23318528 2020-02-12 07:36 06-crippled_sources-5.4.19-64bit.xzm
-rw-r--r-- root/root 4318592 2020-02-12 02:24 vmlinuz
Oh and I also used a newer initrd:

Code: Select all

# md5sum initrd.xz_Porteus_5.0rc1_x86_64;ls -l initrd.xz_Porteus_5.0rc1_x86_64|cut -c 24-
ee8fd5662737b8385d51592982075645 initrd.xz_Porteus_5.0rc1_x86_64
821660 Jan 11 20:49 initrd.xz_Porteus_5.0rc1_x86_64
Do you have that initrd.xz? Or do I need to upload that as well? [I tend to rename my kernels and initrd.xz's to reflect what they are about, and you need do so anyway when you have several Porteus kernels and initrd's, cause they cannot all be just have the very same name and sit in the same /boot/ folder. ]

:D
Cheers!

Dear Rava, I dont have kernelś related Vmlinuz, I appreciate If you also provide me with its crippled resources. (Bear in mind that I am about to prepare NVIDIA driver)

kernelś related Vmlinuz,
It is not kernel related vmlinuz but a newer one for testing pre-rc2 of 5.0 Porteus.
But since I never ran the 5.4.19 with the standard vmlinuz kernel I have no clue if it would work or would create issues.
Cheers!

Currently uploading all three files, it could take approx 30 minutes for all files - unless my connection breaks down during the upload, then I have to start anew.

Lets keep our fingers crossed for the upload to succeed.
And for the Corona hysteria to stop, let the medical experts take the lead once again. And some such experts are criticizing aspects of the current handling of the situation. But this is OT here, move to our "Covid-19 hysteria for everybody" thread when you want to reply about that subject.

Update
So far the upload works like it should:

Do know that I use Palemoon and the Advanced Night Mode Add-On, so webpages usually all look eyes friendly dark. :)

Done! Yay! Image

All xzm modules are XZ compressed versions as is the standard for Porteus.

05-devel_5.0rc1_k5.4.19.xzm (97.23 MB)
64bit-ALL-kernel5.4.19.tar (91.73 MB)
initrd.xz_Porteus_5.0rc1_x86_64 (802.4 kB)

filehorst also reports the md5sums, as should any upload/download service for files do. But many do not do so.
The md5sums filehorst reports are all the correct ones.

For your convenience all md5sums in one snugly place:

Code: Select all

d4499dbc0320c2fa1d60932216728cf7 05-devel_5.0rc1_k5.4.19.xzm
91ea46e5a26ae2f311c256389e6aa352 64bit-ALL-kernel5.4.19.tar
ee8fd5662737b8385d51592982075645 initrd.xz_Porteus_5.0rc1_x86_64
When clicking one of the links you get in the lower part the info to wait 15 seconds, and then the link appears that you need to click for opening a new page where you get the actual link for starting the download.
This is explained in German only.
Dein Download wird jetzt vorbereitet.
Bitte warte 15 Sekunden. Vielen Dank!
(We currently prepare the download for you.
Please wait 15 seconds. Thanks a lot!)

And then you get a link named
Jetzt zur Download-Seite
(Now to the download page)

Make sure to check the md5sums after downloading, no need to install a corrupt kernel or whatnot and crashing your machine trying to boot such a system. :celebrate3:
Cheers!

I had a pleasant experience with mega.nz, would you like to try? I appreciate your choice anyway.

*Regarding the whole compiling progress I will post on its relevant thread.

I tried it as well, but it takes so long for encrypting and decrypting, and that every time you access it.
I do not get why they not offer a variant where there is no encryption. Like for open source data like Linux ISO or Porteus xzm modules. Usually we do not need encryption for these.
Cheers!
