@ncmprhnsbl:
Is it compatible with porteus 3.2.1 version? Definitely OB (openbox) porteus is the most performing desktop on my old Dell optiplex 746 desktop.

Have you tried the printing module with your OB desktop?

Thanks for this new version of OB.

Printing under OB:
Download blaze's printing module viewtopic.php?f=53&t=6232

To get blaze printing module running:
1.0 a few modification needed:
1.1 Pointing cups to http://localhost:631/admin for cups to load into webbrowser appropriately.
1.2 Get the cups server running at bootup:

Code: Select all

chmod +x /etc/rc.d/rc.cups
1.3It would be great that print settings appears into the OB menu. I am too rusted to provide the solution. :(Under preferences print settings is under the nomination of system-config-printer which is even better.
2.0 Adding missing packages:

Code: Select all

root@porteus:/home/guest# system-config-printer
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/share/system-config-printer/system-config-printer.py", line 29, in <module>
    import dbus
ImportError: No module named dbus
root@porteus:/home/guest# usm -g dbus-python

 The following items were found.
 Choose an number to confirm.
 ctrl+c to quit

1) dbus-python-1.2.4-x86_64-1.txz
2) dbus-python3-1.2.4-x86_64-1_slonly.txz
#? 1
etc.

root@porteus:/home/guest# system-config-printer
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/share/system-config-printer/system-config-printer.py", line 31, in <module>
    import gtk
ImportError: No module named gtk
root@porteus:/home/guest# system-config-printer
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/share/system-config-printer/system-config-printer.py", line 31, in <module>
    import gtk
ImportError: No module named gtk
root@porteus:/home/guest# usm -g pygtk

 The following items were found.
 Choose an number to confirm.
 ctrl+c to quit

1) pygtk-2.24.0-x86_64-2.txz
2) pygtksourceview-2.10.1-x86_64-1_slonly.txz
3) pygtksourceview-2.10.1-x86_64-2rl.txz
4) pygtkspell-2.25.3-x86_64-1_slonly.txz
#? 1
Note: I don't know if this post should be here or in the printing module section. It is up to you to judge. :)

havnt tried yet.. it should work.. but will rebuild off 3.2.1 xfce
i suspect that obconf will be broken by the new openbox in xorg..
Have you tried the printing module with your OB desktop?
no... i'm a nonprinter :)
you seem to be onto it :good:
It would be great that print settings appears into the OB menu
if "print settings" has a .desktop file in /usr/share/applications, it should show in the "applications" menu section..

i think its the apropriate place..
so.. did that get it working?
not sure usm handles python deps fully...but i know pygtk needs python for example...

Printing works perfectly on openbox with the few fixes I have proposed.

Corrected my previous post:
Under preferences print settings is under the nomination of system-config-printer which is exactly what it is.

Thanks.

Hi @ncmprhnsbl,

I'm not able to download your module from box.
Is there a way to upload the file on another place?
Thanks!

On a Windows machine I did not manage to download the file on box.
I tried with my Android smartphone and it worked! Strange...!
Thank you, I will try your module as soon as possible.

not really, since crunchbang was debian + openbox :)
Evan wrote:Wasn't CrunchBang discontinued some years ago?.
opensource is a bit like the hydra > cut off one head and two grow back.... ie Bunsenlabs, Crunchbang++, Crunchbang-Monara...
(and any number of other nondebian openbox based distros/spins..)

that's one, actually, since porteus-kiosk is a separate entity...

Hi,

I used openbox for awhile:

tint2rc: panel // tint2conf
obmenu // obconfig // lxappearance

autostart:
.config/openbox/autostart

Dynamic menus:

General stuff:

xfce4 it's easier to run.
