ArchLinux packages manager for Porteus

Here is a place for your projects which are not officially supported by the Porteus Team. For example: your own kernel patched with extra features; desktops not included in the standard ISO like Gnome; base modules that are different than the standard ISO, etc...

ArchLinux packages manager for Porteus

Post#258 by raja » 10 Aug 2017, 09:02

Neko,

Deepin Desktop is one idea which is fresh and attractive among thousands of distributions with not much to differentiate. You must get back to Aporteus with Deepin DDE and gladden people like me .

Backdoors even if present will be only for tracing Political opponents(anti Red) and we need not worry. Definitely it will not be for phishing or data theft.

As I said somewhere in this forum, I tested this ISO. Works much better, though I had to replace the Openchrome driver and include mt7601u firmware , just like in Porteus.(and with SystemD it has problem with shutdown.reboot etc.) Please try for some inputs to Deepin implementation.

https://github.com/DebianDog/Stretch/re ... -01-02.iso

https://github.com/DebianDog/Stretch/re ... -01-02.md5

And, this link may give some guidance to Control centre etc in Arch...

https://github.com/linuxdeepin/dde-daemon/issues/34

Thanks.

@raja
Thank you for your interest on APorteus.

1."Deepin Desktop Backdoor" suspicion issue
I think that it is not problem for the user who knows its issue.
But it is a little problem for the user who doesn't know its issue at all.
Therefore patching "ISO Builder" is needed in order to build "Deepin Desktop".
This process makes an user know its issue.

Please refer to the item "3. The backdoor problem" of
Re: ArchLinux packages manager for Porteus (Post by neko #56188)

2. mt7601u firmware
Depending your point out, it has already been included in 000-kernel.xzm module.
Thank you for your point out.
Re: Porteus Kernel Builder (Post by raja #56507)

3. Openchrome driver
Currently xf86-video-openchrome-0.6.0-x86_64-1 package is included in 002-xorg.xzm module.
Would you tell me the binary package that you have used for replacing.

4. "with SystemD it has problem with shutdown.reboot etc" issue
It is not yet fixed.
If you know how to avoid it, would you help me.
It is one of APorteus low completeness reasons.

5. "some guidance to Control centre etc in Arch"
http://forum.porteus.org/go.php?https:/ ... /issues/34

It uses compiling source code.
It is difficult for me to compile from source.
My approach is basically that gathering binary packages and building ISO.

6. "DebianDog-Stretch-Deepin-DE-2017-01-02" ISO
I will study it.

Thank you very much.

ArchLinux packages manager for Porteus

Post#264 by raja » 23 Aug 2017, 09:14

Neko,

I tried Porteus,Aporteus,Debian Stretch with acpi sleep patch, in 32 bit old Laptop. Shutdown,Reboot problem continues. But ,when you boot with different vmlinuz and 000-kernel module, boots okay, but network, sound don't work, but Laptop Shutsdown and reboots perfectly. Hope we can trace the culprit soon.

Last weekend, I tried Porteus 64 bit and Aporteus 64 bit "Budgie" version, in a latest EFI boot ,Acer Laptop, with Intel chipsets. Everyone will assume that things will be perfect, with such modern architecture.

Both, booted on first try.Very happy!, no no, only to see "Touch Pad" mouse not working. what will you do without a cursor?

Model: Aspire E5-575 V1.15
OS: Arch Linux x86_64
Kernel: 4.12.8-porteus
Uptime: up 1 hour, 2 minutes
Shell: bash 4.4.12
Resolution: 1920x1080
DE: Budgie:GNOME
WM: Mutter(Budgie)
WM Theme: Adwaita
Theme: Adwaita [GTK2/3]
Icons: Adwaita [GTK2/3]
Terminal: Lxterminal
CPU: Intel Core i3-7100U (4) @ 2.4GHz
GPU: Intel Integrated Graphics
Memory: 1052MB / 3826MB
I found out Kernel has not detected the "Touch Pad", an issue reported in the net and a patch was created but not mainstreamed in the tree.

Code: Select all

{ PCI_VDEVICE(INTEL, 0xa162), (kernel_ulong_t)&spt_i2c_info }
was missing

The patch required is at,

https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blob/ ... lpss-pci.c

Neko, Budgie is impressive and almost everything is working perfectly, great job, but a major disappointment foe me, with the Xorg's Intel driver for the Full HD Intel 620 chipset with support for DRI 1,2 and 3.

Full HD Videos crawl in a 7th Generation I3 machine.

oh, I forgot, Budgie with Kernel 4.12.8 shuts down and reboots in that machine , but whether it goes for sleep after 15 min is yet to be tested.. When stuck, now, I follow Arch's suggestion to use "System Request" key.
Follow, R,E,I,S,U,B or O key in combination with alt plus sysrq keys.

1)Kernel 4.12.7 32 bit with own patch sleep.c has not resolved the existing shutdown and reboot problem in Kernel versions above 4.7 in my old Laptop.

2)Suppose you boot the machine with vmlinuz 4.11.0, but with modules generated in kernel say 4.12.7, boot process is okay. Since drivers in 4.12.7 don't match with the vmlinuz, services like sound, network don't work.

But the Laptop shuts down and reboots and does not hang.

Arch suggestion to use alt+Sys Rq+b helps in rebooting, when m/c hangs.

Neko, all above for information.

3)Budgie: The borrowed new Acer Laptop, probably uses a "Touch Pad (2,3 taps) which is not made by Synaptics and due to a missing line in Kernel, it does not detect presence of a PS2 mouse and because of that Xorg also does not load an "input driver" for the touch pad. This is true with Porteus 3.2.2 64 bit OS also.

Again, there is no problem with your kernel or Budgie OS. Applying the patch may help in Kernel scanning PCI and detecting the Touch Pad. I shall test if could create a new Kernel with that patch.

4) Budgie has all latest codecs and Player. But Xorg's 'Intel" graphic driver is pathetic with the Chip set in this Laptop. So MPV plays a Full HD Video @ 10 frames per second.

Again this is for information.

Windows 10, OEM OS works perfectly, in that Acer Laptop. No problem with plug and play detection or drivers for touch pad or graphics.

Linux has a long way to go and satisfy users.

Hope this communication is clear and not confusing you.
Thanks.
