ArchLinux packages manager for Porteus

Here is a place for your projects which are not officially supported by the Porteus Team. For example: your own kernel patched with extra features; desktops not included in the standard ISO like Gnome; base modules that are different than the standard ISO, etc...

in porteus-5.0-rc2&3, we've made a symlink "fusermount" to fusermount3, and i've had no problems with appimages.
the only time i've needed fuse(2) is when compiling something that looks for it, and even then, once compiled it's ok with fuse3.

Appimage should be a bit smarter if it doesn't find fusermount then use fusermount3

I went to test the latest Iso version APorteus-v21.07.18-x86_64 installed on a partition and got stuck during boot. I managed to make it work just replacing it with the kernel from the previous Iso APorteus-v21.07.13-x86_64.

Thanks for keeping that flame alive.

At 1st i had great hopes for it but then found out i was back to the days when language/keyboard were an early deterent and i happen to manage well with english too. In comparison the Mageia v8 experience felt most welcoming when i found "Canada (Québec)" in the options, although there's my type of keyboard and there's ACNOR that i don't much about simply because i don't have/use one... The most complete collection of keyboards found on our territory has to come from elsewhere than the SlackWare realm it seems. I thought at least i could manage to launch the installer and be done with it but this has been just a succession of frustrating blockades one step after the next and i don't intend to blame blame anyone here; it how it feels anyway.

I hope everyone understands this observation diminishes nothing that was contributed, but lets face it, after Slax, PureOS, Alixe and Niblex one could argue Porteus is now on a decline curve i think. And this is exactly why i was so hopeful that new blood from Red Hat people might bring us to par with those running a 5.4+ Linux kernel, while the 32-bits version stalled at v4 dot something a couple years ago, already... Meanwhile we got computers on HDMi "sticks" now, with WiFi/BlueTooth and more. Even better yet, the 32-bits market gave us the Raspberry Pi in a keyboard, so the 64-bits processing trend didn't actually kill our legacy hardware just yet! So, where's the Tomáš Matějíček tradition heading now? I wonder, asking myself if i can affrord to invest further time & resources in a short-lived hobby... Which is why it's essential that newbies still mesmerized by novelty don't suffer the same path of disillusion and i thought dynamic on-demand building of a live system was a great feature with little competition. But i had this experience unsing Mageia v8 instead, trying to revalorize a diskless Acer AspireOne that crawled even before Windows7, already. And now it's back to life thanks to linux, too bad peripherals support proves eminently variable; in too many occurences having a fight simply to get a positive boot and of course it's all a waste without this preliminary necessity.

Yet i'll give the builders a try again, at a later time after i've recovered from getting myself burnt again. Right at the moment i'd like to offer an alternative to Windows and i cannot because of too many considerations. Believe me it's not by taste or logic, the machine must NOT requite the average user's attention in the manner of a pet, doing nothing else in the process that was initially planned. At times the Windows that i paid for starts to harrass its owners, care for this or that, then you forget why you turned the switch on in the 1st place... And memory (nor patience) ain't improving with age!

That's why it's so important to provide feedback to those braves who do walk the path, that's why i feel obligated to look again with hope.

My appologies for expressing myself without filter and so loud. It's those posts that keep us coming back, because we loose the capacity and end up with an object in our hands when it was supposed to be something else, imagine dealing with alphabet soup in some uncooperative CLi...

Respect! :worship: :worthy:

Hi!

That should bring back some hope & a smile possibly saving the day, so i'll return after it's been evaluated a fair bit, which shouldn't be too long if all goes well the same as previously. My fear being from the confusion between Catalan and French-Canadian causing a mismatch in keyboard layouts like there use to be, but that was a while ago trying a different SlackWare-based Linux.

:clover:

Tic! Tac! ... Tic! Tac!

It was brief. There's no gentle way to put it, only 1 PC booted and in UEFi mode ONLY. 640x480 resolution made it impossible for me to find where to check for WiFi/BT functionality, xrandr showed a display driver wasn't loaded and keyboard layout + country were inadequete though i managed to verify the following command positively (French-Canadian):

setxkbmap -model pc105 -layout ca,us,fr -variant , , euro <-- OK

I didn't really care to try the "cf" parameter in a SysLinux CLi via [tab] option at boot time and i later noticed utility 'paprefs' would prove to be missing too.

Unfortunately opportunity showed up recently to promote Linux, but after those observations it appears i'll just stand down for a while. Must be something about Slackware gone too old, whatever.

Chop! Chop! Chop! ... :hmmm:

But it was nice offering a last chance after my previous post. Thanks for that!
