64bit Openbox (003-DE replacement)

Here is a place for your projects which are not officially supported by the Porteus Team. For example: your own kernel patched with extra features; desktops not included in the standard ISO like Gnome; base modules that are different than the standard ISO, etc...

64bit Openbox (003-DE replacement)

Post#1 by ncmprhnsbl » 20 Oct 2014, 07:06

A minimal 003-'desktop' replacement module for porteus 3.xx , 64bit

Currently RC 2.(sa15c) https://app.box.com/s/a1c020d5rqxlwg1of297 11.1 MB
upgrading from RC 1. recommended

Sources and build instructions : https://github.com/ncmprhnsbl/openbox (currently up to date)
How to use:
replace 003-* in /porteus/base
or
add to /porteus/optional and use cheatcodes load-=003-box noload=003-<kde, lxqt, xfce, mate>

Included Apps/Features :
gtk2 only
network-manager-applet
spacefm(built with gnsu support)
udevil(user mounting)
tint2(4 themes in menu)
conky(4 themes in menu)
lxterminal
feh(wallpapr setter in menu)
audacious ('borrowed' from xfce, thanks brokenman)
compton(compositing controls in menu)
volumeicon
leafpad
mplayer
openbox-menu(dynamic menu)
dmenu
gpicviewer
lxappearance
gsimplecal
scrot(with screenshot dialog from lxde(thanks Ahau))

Some Issues/todo :
no networkmanager applet(wifi issues?)fixed
permissions nightmarefixed
add root configsfixed
no 32bit build yetfixed
put all scripts in one common place ie /opt/
should probly standardize the github with https://github.com/brokenman/xfce.git structure and build instrc. <partly fixed, using adapted xfce-build.sh
general encouragement to anyone to clone the github repo, customize, rebuild...

This is the german rigor in action. I like it.
Thanks for this important nuance.

no networkmanager applet(wifi issues?)
it could be used nm-applet from mate module (+required libraries)

Yes. I've since updated the github with the current release. Most probably at the time you pulled git it was using nm-applet compiled for gtk3.

good news is nm-applet is now working (using packages from xfce github)
bad news is in the process i broke gnsu : it wont accept correct password : permission denied ...
am using 'xfce-patches' for gnsu and sudoers
thought maybe sudo (dont know what this means):-

Code: Select all

guest@porteus:~$ sudo spacefm
sudo: effective uid is not 0, is sudo installed setuid root?
or something related to gnome-keyring(also changed with nm-applet) +removed gcr
or something else ive done :unknown:

heres a current package list

Code: Select all

no problem with pre-activated mate module:

Code: Select all

sudo spacefm

We trust you have received the usual lecture from the local System

#1) Respect the privacy of others.
    #2) Think before you type.
#3) With great power comes great responsibility.

@brokenman thanks, see below :wink:

@tome, thanks for the info :)

okay, my problem lay in the 'something else i've done' part, i think
i got a little too clever with one of the build scripts and messed up permissions..breaking sudo and udevil..

so..nm-applet is now working.
gnome-keyring version doesn't seem to matter.
updated module coming soon....
