Quite interesting that the folks who make Ikki Boot to choose removing Puppy Linux and addind Porteus 5.0 XFCE instead.
I approve.
Both are more slim than XFCE is.
But I am okay with that choice since XFCE is also my favourite.
Anyhow, researching all that I stumbled upon this

I doubt it, seems they go by the slim DE solution. Why they choose XFCE and not 003-lxde.xzm or 003-openbox.xzm to build Ikki Boot - who can say.

Since when is there a mainstream DE for Unix-like operating systems based on Apple's Aqua?Mainstream desktop environments for Unix-like operating systems use the X Window System, and include KDE, GNOME, Xfce, LXDE, and Aqua

What is sure is that the LXDE version has been tested but not chosen. The wallpaper is the same as Porteux LXDE.
I think the author is already working on his next version.
I found where to get the Porteus modules without downloading the ISO.
Some of them are even more recent

I wish there was an option for it to download all it does like the parameters as quoted above… but without creating the server hierarchy… but alas! seems that option doesn't exist.Ed_P wrote: ↑26 Oct 2022, 22:29Rava wrote: ↑26 Oct 2022, 20:37this is the short equivalent:

Porteus has been added to Ikki Boot
I would have chosen one settings file that contains all such settings (e.g. only one module containing "xfce-numlock+xfce-disable-screen-sleep+veracrypt-shortcut+mozilla-firefox-shortcut+keepassxc-shortcut+hardinfo-shortcut+geany-shortcut.xzm") instead of several single modules containing only one setting at a time.
Like with the below 4096 bytes for xfce-numlock.xzm - that only has 2 identical files each 210 byteswith only this content
but maybe that' just me thinking one settings-module is more efficient than 7…

Porteus has been added to Ikki Boot
It itches in my fingers, wanting to create a wget-recursive script that understand that e.g. --level=1 and URL containing "download.tuxfamily.org/ikkiboot/porteus/" means move all files from "download.tuxfamily.org/ikkiboot/porteus/" to "." and then remove the whole download.tuxfamily.org/ folder

In my book, scripts should be there to do recurring repetitive and/or similar tasks for us.
And not us doing the recurring repetitive tasks manually each and every time.
Then again, I think someone else might have come up with the very same idea that I described above already many many moons ago… and we just have to find that finished script online.
Cheers!

I agree but would phrase it a bit differently.
In my book, scripts are created to do recurring repetitive and/or similar tasks for us. That's why I create them and I'm sure why you do also.

Great wget script but the modules have been moved to sourceforge
https://sourceforge.net/projects/ikkibo ... s/porteus/
At least not all
For the modules an optimization has already been done if you look at abiword and gnumeric on the ISO there were 11 modules and now only one.
On my side I like to have the shortcuts in different xzm files. I have Firefox and the desktop shortcut. I don't need any other xzm, the other shortcuts are not useful to me.
I think the goal is both to give modules for those who like to create their own Porteus and to allow Ikki Boot users to enjoy the modules effortlessly. It's hard to combine the two in my opinion.

You are correct, there is no way in appeasing both approaches.funghost wrote: ↑27 Oct 2022, 18:47On my side I like to have the shortcuts in different xzm files. I have Firefox and the desktop shortcut. I don't need any other xzm, the other shortcuts are not useful to me.

And I think most likely the folks who want it more optimized (like me) are most likely all able to create one single settings module out of the several tiny 4k ones if they want to - than the ones only wanting one or two programs and their corresponding settings.
This way everyone can get happy - albeit includes some minor work for the picky with efficiency folks. Like me.

indeed, I hate only downloads via sourceforge.net since you cannot easily direct wget to it and get one command doing several downloads automatically for you.funghost wrote: ↑27 Oct 2022, 18:47Great wget script but the modules have been moved to sourceforge

SF.net used to be a fine site, like, 140 years ago (only slightly exaggerating there, LOL </irony>), but then they started to suck. And they still suck.

Salut Julien.
