Porteus the best live cd I have tested in years
note this is an unofficial tool
I know that Porteus has an elegant GUI package management app
and with all due respect I didnt write this to replace PPM.
I wrote this before there was PPM or before I used Porteus
for my own personal use and have been used to using it
and I wanted to see if it would work on Porteus to help me
get comfortable quickly installing packages
so I will be testing this on Porteus
and making adjustments to code if needed
so far I havent needed to edit a single thing it works out of the box
it is for any old school slackware users that would like a simple GUI
I spent a long time rewriting pkgtool to use Xdialog and cut out a lot of un used code
and added dependency checking NOT dependency resolving
it is much faster than pkgtools if anyone ever poked around in pkgtools its a massive script
to figure out
I wrote this for a base OS that didnt use slackware packages
the reason for any duplicate files that would be in Porteus
Lite package tools for power users *depreciated*
Here is a place for your projects which are not officially supported by the Porteus Team. For example: your own kernel patched with extra features; desktops not included in the standard ISO like Gnome; base modules that are different than the standard ISO, etc...

Welcome
The feature you suggest is already implemented in Porteus Package Manager and Porteus Module Tools.
Do you think this tool should give some new feature to Porteus..or maybe this a light PPM for devs and xzm's guarders ?

thanks for the welcomeHamza
or maybe this a light PPM for devs
yes, just something lite for devs or people used to making packages
and it will handle packages differently than the standard installer
well I see it like if you go to a party some
bring drinks some bring food some bring chips
and some bring nothing but enjoy the food
its just something to share I placed on the table here at your party
I slow cooked if it does something you like enjoy

it would overwrite installpkg or other stock slackware package tools
with a minor edit to slackware pkgtools to allow root installs that
*was a change that happened from slackwares 12.1 to the current
the new slackware package tools wont allow root installs without my tweak
the reason I suggested to test live cd
basically I wrote my own GUI in Xdialog to use official slackware backend tools *with a root use edit*
and added dependency checking it works well also on official slackware 13.37

I dont know if fanthom tested it or not but I posted first in chat
and he said I should post in the development section
so that any ideas wouldnt be lost
I am trying to get comfortable using porteus
I have made many packages I would like to test
this is how I can test things quickly on my own setup
the official Porteus tool is very nice and polished
this is is just a very lite approach that doesn't use mount points (or modules)
not that there is anything wrong in that just a different way

No problem at all!
If someone know a way to maker Porteus, he simple need to share his solution on development section and all community will takes a look on your solution.
This is very simple.
You have a solution, You share it.
We take a look, We make it better if it can be.
If it works nice, We publish !
I do like this system when everyone can contribute on the part he want. Most of people think the contribution is only available for devs..but this is a bad idea because otherwise who will make official install guide (Ahau), who will make some artworks for Porteus OS (Blaze), who will think that we need a porteus settings centre (agreimann).
Everything is good on Linux!
