um.. dconf-editor is included in cinnamon and mate (in v5.0)

looks like some sort of transient server issue..
btw, getpkg can be run either as guest or root, only difference will be that when it comes time to make the module a password will be prompted.

i can only suggest at this point, to try "Always Fresh" , to eliminate module/changes interference as a cause..

getpkg also doesn't work in "always fresh" mode
Conclusion: in Porteus 4.0 Xfce getpkg does not work (bug?)

In Porteus 5.0 Xfce, getpkg works.
PS: I often still use Porteus 4.0, I still have to convert many applications to 5.0

Try using slapt-get
slapt-get: slapt-get is an APT like system for Slackware package management.
