But as I can still use grub legacy on a usb key with an ext2 partition. I reiterate my use of grub legacy.

Syslinux does something to mbr, thus grublegacy cannot install itself. I would like to find some way to restore mbr to its origninal pre syslinux state.
How do you do that bogomips?
