Mouse madness

Post#1 by M. Eerie » 10 Jun 2018, 11:17

I've been observing for some time that the behavior of the mouse (various mouses) is very unstable:
  • A simple click transforms into a double (or triple) click
  • A simple click on a Firefox tab, does not activate the tab ...
  • The selection of elements is erratic ...
In short, it seems that the use of the left button (in my case), is very unstable, and is driving me mad.
Also right mouse button is not fine.

I'm posting here because I thought that it was a hardware failure, (I've even read how to put a .01 uF capacitor to solve that).

However, none of that happens when I'm using Windows / Ubuntu Budgie where it's acts perfect.

Anyone else?

Cheers!

What type of mouse do you have? This might help us narrowing down the search.

Is it plugged thru a usb hub? If so try to plug it directly into the usb entry. I had such behavior under debian.

Thank you! I was using a Samsung keyboard with a "convenient" USB hub. Yesterday I've plugged the mouse directly, and it's somehow better responding. (not 100% however)

Mouse madness

It's been some time, and I was pretty sure this was not (100%) hardware related. So... I ended installing another OS (Ubuntu Mate) in the very same PC (hardware platform), and the mouse work as intended. Perfect, with no "bounceclicking" issue.

After doing some research, I'm pretty sure this comes from different ways of controlling the events through the libinput library.

With both systems uptodate, Ubuntu MATE using libinput v 1.10.4-1 (xserver-xorg-input-libinput 0.27.1-1) works perfect, while Manjaro XFCE Illyria 18.0-rc one (libinput 1.12.1-1, xf86-input-libinput 0.28.1-1), it's a nightmare...

Also, it should be noted that different xorg-xserver versions are used in each OS.

Thanks, great ; I ran into the exact same issue, although I solved the "is it a hardware problem" in a less tech-savvy way... I just switched mice with my wife, and saw that mine worked great on her computer and that hers had the same issue on mine! I actually registered on this forum to ask that... and found that it was already answered. Thanks a lot!
