[Solved] Video Driver

How do I know which to use.

nVidia 340.58
nVidia legacy 304.123

Any idea? How can I check to be sure?

I just like Slackware because I think it teach you about Linux to build packages where Ubuntu is like Windows you just install programs you want.

What is your video card spec. Please look at the output of lspci. Then go at the nvidia site with your card type. In doubt post the information in this thread. Soomeone will help you.

Thanks for the info. Here is the spec of my laptop.

Which I get a free copy of Windows 10 the 29 of July. Not sure if I will ever use it.

In your lspci output the pertinent info is:

Code: Select all

02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation C77 [GeForce 8200M G] (rev a2)
Searching the nvidia site for 340.58:
http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverRe ... 9413/en-us

Your card is listed in the products.

304.123:
http://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverResults.aspx/77037

Your card is listed in the list, but the driver is best suited for openbsd.

So the nVidia 340.58 is the better choice. I will try it.

Yes. But as beny said, you could try the second one and report. :)

Well I try it with no luck. Just a blank screen had to hit the power button to shut down. Reboot with another copy to put files back and rebooted now everything is good to go. :Bravo:
