1.0 I have been able to start the hp printing manager. I bootup with the hplip bundle and once in the X environment activate printing.xzm which is needed for cups and print settings (system-config-printer). You can start hp printer manager from the menu in the utilities or with hp-toolbox command.

If not try the ppd method.

2. PPD procedure from printer settings (system-config-printer) for I have no hp printer hp deskjet d4360.

Just copy the following file and save it as /etc/cups/ppd/HP-Deskjet-d4300.ppd:

panel > system > print settings > add printer

Then follow the instructions. If you do not get your printer thru select printer from database, just use provide ppd file which will be /etc/cups/ppd/HP-Deskjet-d4300.ppd.

3.0 For more info on ppd and linux. There is the use of the windows driver, but I never got much success with it.

However, I think that the provided driver might be the same as with your already installed driver.

Most printers in linux depend on Python to make them work. I don't know how XP drives the printers, but I think they do it without Python. The problem is the documentation of the different printers; that's why MS needs different drivers for the printers. I have read in Google, they (the printer makers) are trying to bring them all to a common denominator, namely pdf. That would be a good thing for us linuxers...

Reinstalled LXDE

Now ' HP Device Manager ' opens and sees the printer and reports.
Everything appears good but still doesn't use the black ink cartridge.
