Here you can post about your various experiences with PC hardware. You can also post about hardware that is not compatible with the linux kernel or not recommended for use with Porteus.

Hello Obosan,

I simply used google translate. I only see squares on my computer, but I thought that you might have the interface to see japanese pictograms. It was only a guess.

I am glad to read that you can read it on your side. I would like to see the japanese pictograms too, to see what they look like. I imagine that I would need to set my locale to japan!

@obosan:
I understand that it is possible to print from the sd card and the android phone from the Canon Selphy cp 910 user's manual. Do you print from porteus?

A. Selphy and linux-boxes:
.program on bzr for the selphy cp-900:
http://wilmer.gaa.st/blog/archives/76-s ... inter.html
..bazaar in five minutes:
http://doc.bazaar.canonical.com/latest/ ... -tutorial/

B. Selphy CP-910 other than with linux boxes:
- thru wifi with android and I phones.
- thru cameras supporting PictBridge by cable or Wireless (some Canon cameras). I am happy to realize that this is the case of my sony nex-7 (PictBridge cable).
- with an sd card

Conclusion:
I keep the Selphy CP-910. And I agree with the guy of pcmagazine: given that the Selphy is at 100$, you would need to print 700 hundred pictures from the EpsonPictureMate to benefit from some economy.

The Epson PictureMate Show printer was the editors choice was at 300$:
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2358314,00.asp

The epson is cheaper to run, faster though not based on the thermal printing process (it is inkjet only). Though comparing to the Selphy CP-910, they said that the price and quality of the pictures where still quite good. He does not mention the durability of the photographs that is better with the Selphy.

J'espere tout vas bien pour vous! ( I hope everything goes well with you, francois! )
The issue is a little bit far from the subject, though, I would like you to put Japanese font on your system:
http://dl.porteus.org/i486/current/pack ... 1_Ahau.xzm
Many thanks to Ahau! :Rose:
This is a Japanese font, therefore, you might read Tofu-like quadrangle part in correct way.
If you want input Japanese characters, this is another story.
Salutation! :friends:

What a gorgeous camera you have! :Yahoo!:
Regarding the CP-910 driver for linux, you have to wait to the next version of Gutenberg, I mean Guten Print.

Pictograms. Then I will be able to look at the japaneese pictograms in my next encounter and try to make some sense of them. I went in china with my spouse two years ago. We felt like analphabets and mute persons. While we were traveling the Beijing metro, we began to realize that sounds were linked to some pictograms. We plan to go to Japan some day. This country of yours is really amazing to us.

Sony nex-7, is so small, is a pleasure to walk around with this camera. It is providing images with a deep definition, and it sees things even after dusk.

CP-910 driver for linux, I will wait for gutenprint. But meanwhile, people can use the printer directly with the sdcard or the cable of their camera.

Merci. :)

Dear francois,

CP-910 on direct print makes sense. PictBridge / SD card images can see on small monitor of the printer.

Visiting Far East Asia, you do not worry about Kanji/Pictograms in Tokyo Metro!
If you come to Japan with your epouse, especially Kyoto, Tokyo, Yokohama, Osaka and maybe Sapporo, you will be well informed on the monitor in carriage and in stations not only in Japanese but also in Korean, Chinese and English.
Japanese yen is so weak in these days, so the tourists from abroad are very welcome.
As far as I know you already have Toshiba and Sony products, so I shall take you to "Akihabara" where you will be able to get some newest models.

Anyway, when your plan is fixed, please let me know.

Welcome on porteus chrisns.

Thanks for the ppd. I will try it as soon as I get a hand on the printer.

CP910 Canon printer.

Took me some time to get there. Installing the proposed ppd, while trying to print the test page, I get:

Code: Select all

client-error-document-format-not-supported
Output of /var/log/cups/error_log:
Output of /var/log/cups/access_log:

Code: Select all

localhost - - [10/Jan/2016:15:42:22 +0000] "POST / HTTP/1.1" 200 341 Create-Printer-Subscription successful-ok
localhost - - [10/Jan/2016:15:44:51 +0000] "POST /printers/Canon-CP910_ipp HTTP/1.1" 200 230 Create-Job successful-ok
localhost - - [10/Jan/2016:15:44:51 +0000] "POST /printers/Canon-CP910_ipp HTTP/1.1" 200 10994272 Send-Document client-error-document-format-not-supported
localhost - - [10/Jan/2016:15:44:51 +0000] "POST /jobs/ HTTP/1.1" 200 179 Cancel-Job successful-ok
Edited a little later, output after adding some icc in the right folders:
@chrisns:
I followed your invitation to try the cp910:
http://forum.porteus.org/viewtopic.php? ... 832#p40832

However, I think that my ppd file is not well set for the files I have on my system:

Code: Select all

root@porteus:/tmp/usmsbo/cups-filter# lpstat -p -d
printer Canon-CP910_ipp disabled since Sun 10 Jan 2016 07:15:44 PM Local time zone must be set--see zic manual page -
The printer configuration is incorrect or the printer no longer exists.
Here is what I modified in the CP-910_ipp.ppd:

Code: Select all

*cupsICCProfile Gray../Grayscale: "/usr/share/color/icc/Adobe ICC Profiles/RGB Profiles/Gray Gamma 2.2 Profile.icc"
*cupsICCProfile RGB../Color: "/usr/share/color/icc/Adobe ICC Profiles/RGB Profiles/AdobeRGB1998.icc"
I did not found sRGB Profile.icc download on the net.

So I am unable to print with the cp910. Any suggestion? What are the important parts of the ppd to be adressed here?

any suggestion
quite a few actually.

I could not find a 910 PPD so this is a 32 bit archlinux ppd for the 800 series

https://www.dropbox.com/s/wdtppld1bhmf8 ... n.ppd?dl=0

What I would like you to do is go into cups and keep a backup of this somewhere like you home folder and choose the PPD install method with your printer turned on and you in a web browser at cups screen
---I assume you know what I am talking about here.

then choose this PPD as is and see if it prints.

(2) if no good.....run a graphical diff against the mac file and this file....and then because you have a backup....make incremental changes to the file sitting in /etc/cups/ppd or whereever Porteus has it until printing works

More importantly I don't know where slackware scatters its files so some pathways may be wrong and need changing but you need gutenprint installed to try this driver please.

(3) I expect by now you have set up your locale and your locale determines the true paper size.

(4) check to see if you have any or all of the fonts installed....there is a fallback but to enjoy the nicest output having good fonts makes a diff

(5) I notice the default colour set is RGB.....this may not be correct for your printer. It could well be CYMK

good luck

Thanks aus9 for your feedback.

Pretty busy week at work and at nite. I will have to wait this friday to have enough time to look back at the issue.

@obosan:
The issue is a little bit far from the subject, though, I would like you to put Japanese font on your system:
http://dl.porteus.org/i486/current/pack ... 1_Ahau.xzm
I just realized rereading this thread that I forgot to answer to your demand. You know it is not too late. Where can I find a package for the japaneese pictogram to be inserted in the next version of the upcoming printing module for porteus 3.2? :)
