Porteus

HP Deskjet 2050 was without a driver under porteus linux for my friend hamza . I hope the solution will work for him.

It is in hplip. So just dowload the hplip driver without dependencies and activate it. Or just pickup the ppd that I have posted on mediafire.

32 bit ppd.
If you look into the /usr/share/ppd/HP folder you will have the compressed ppd. For the HP Deskjet 2050 you found hp-deskjet_2050_j510_series.ppd.gz. All you have to do is to decompressed the file to have a functional ppd. Here is the ppd file from my 32bit installation:

64 bit ppd.
God knows why, one cannot find the ppd in the same folder with hplip on 64 bit. It seems to be generated by the CUPS printer installation or with system-config-printer installation. Once generated the file is stored in /etc/cups/ppd folder. Here is the ppd file for hp deskjet 2050 for my 64 bit installation:

Download the ppd and install it in /etc/cups/ppd/

Usb install:
system > manage printing will get you into CUPS
administration > root, password > local printer: hpdeskjet 2050 > add_printer with the printer name as it is or change it to your convenience > Or Provide a PPD File: (you get the ppd file in /etc/cups/ppd/) and ADD PRINTER > set default options

Then test it:
maintenance > print test page

Getting an error when testing using the maintenance feature.

A. What is missing is the ghostscript module, but also hpcups filters. Then redo the print test. You can get ghostscript from PPM. I have extracted hpcups filters from hplip module:

B. Or even better get the system-config-printer module and dependencies, but also install the hpcups filters, and report the result of your installation in

1) panel > system > printer
Your printer should appear as you have installed the ppd, click on it.

2) Select properties. And do the printer test.

C. If those solutions do not work, with PPM download hplip without dependencies and install the printer with the CUPS interface or better with system-config-printer (this printer pack with hplip will install your printer automatically).

We are not far from the solution. The only problem is that I have no hp deskjet printer to test the offered solution. I would really like your printer to be operative.
