Boot splash suggestion

New features which should be implemented in Porteus; suggestions are welcome. All questions or problems with testing releases (alpha, beta, or rc) should go in their relevant thread here, rather than the Bug Reports section.

Boot splash suggestion

Post#1 by nanZor » 15 Apr 2019, 23:05

Throw this in the suggestion box .. [shred] ... to help total newcomers for the boot splash ...

We're assuming this stuff should be totally obvious, but you never know how a silly bump in the road might be a logic blocker. I've had many where you laugh afterwards.

Add text saying something like "Use [UP / DN] to stop countdown"

Right - it's obvious to us, but a kid - maybe not so much.

Put the countdown underneath the "Press TAB to edit options" to highlight how important that might be instead of at the bottom.

save.dat file - sure, one should edit the configs, but some might not. They may complete the process of making a savefile, and just reboot, and nada. Hit the forums - yes! But maybe once someone has actually hit TAB to enter options, a gentle reminder about editing the CHANGES= part of the boot stanza might be helpful especially if they didn't actually edit their changes in the first place.

Since the cursor is not seen on the boot line, perhaps something like
"Use <> to move cursor to make your temporary changes"

"ESC to go back" - in case they got totally freaked out and are in the wrong place.

This is petty stuff, but just throwing it out there for consideration...
That's a UNIX book - cool. -Garth
