Porteus-4.0 is in the pipeline.

New features which should be implemented in Porteus; suggestions are welcome. All questions or problems with testing releases (alpha, beta, or rc) should go in their relevant thread here, rather than the Bug Reports section.

Hi brokenman,

Thanks for releasing 4.0 RC1. :good:

I am not able to start MariaDB. Found hostname is not included as per upstream Slackware 14.2 update.
http://www.slackware.com/changelog/curr ... cpu=x86_64
a/hostname-3.18-x86_64-1.txz: Added.
This is the latest version of the hostname utility, broken out into a new
package to get rid of duplication between util-linux and net-tools.

n/net-tools-20170208_479bb4a-x86_64-1.txz: Upgraded.
Don't include hostname, domainname, dnsdomainname, nisdomainname,
or ypdomainname. These are provided by the new hostname package.

The other is Kwrite unable to start as root. Found workaround using guest.

Is Xmas Santa bringing in another release this year?
B)

Cause it seems like every year end there is a Porteus release.

Merry Xmas! Ho! Ho! Ho! :santa: :newyear:

@evergreen
looks like missing firmware
try installing this package kernel-firmware-20171130git-noarch-1.txz
and see if it makes a difference

@ncmprhnsbl Finally is working just I have now an extra module with 92.6 MG to me is nothing nowadays extra data isn't a big deal
I didn't see any other issue with RC1 XFCE just USM didn't update properly , maybe my internet is poor
BTW kernel-firmware was unnecessary In the previous Porteus 3.2
Thanks and Merry Christmas !!

very good :good:
brokenman should be able to use your info to include the relevant firmware so the firmware package isn't needed..
apparently there was some change upstream where firmware is no longer included in the kernel, instead now is a distro package
which has made brokenmans build process a little difficult, hence the possiblitiy of missing some firmware..
hopefully through the rc process most of these can be accounted for..

Nothing..
Does this mean the ernel-firmware package didn't resolve your issue? The device still isn't recognized after the firmware is loaded or there was no firmware for your device?
How do i become super user?

Here is the syslog maybe is useful

I see the RC with 5 desktops to choose from. I have downloaded it and have downloaded the KDE spin. It does not have konqueror [thought it would since it is KDE Spin], but it gives me choice of chrome, chromium, firefox, seamoney, opera etc or use links? If this is the wrong place to post, please correct me. I ran it for a while, but then the machine froze( screen went haywire have nvidia onboard video 6150 SE or so.) happens with LIVESLACK/SLACKWARELIVE from Alienbob as well. I know that nouveau is the driver that powers this up, but how can I deal with these issues? I have to reboot machine again to rerun it. What else should I test? to help. I see it has mpv instead of mplayer. What happened to mplayer? I know I can build it, but it is different from old porteus. I know modules are readily available and usm as well comes to the rescue. I do not have wireless card to test, but if I could test other things please let me know.

Hello again,

The wlan is working only with the kernel-firmware so the original system is missing it, I realise today that my problem was that i didn't refresh the folder syslinux in my new installation , my computer is loading with refind and the partition where is loading the the kernel isn't the same where is Porteus installed. My apologies for this good release.

I used the newer firmware pack that is in the mirror, kernel-firmware-20180211_6d51311-noarch-1.txz
Nothing..
Does this mean the ernel-firmware package didn't resolve your issue? The device still isn't recognized after the firmware is loaded or there was no firmware for your device?

so the missing firmware issue still remains?
could you :

Code: Select all

dmesg | grep firmware
so we can identify whats missing, looking for something wifi related eg. mine looks like this:

Code: Select all

$ dmesg | grep firmware
....
[ 7.997624] iwlwifi 0000:03:00.0: loaded firmware version 17.608620.0 op_mode iwlmvm
....
looking at your earlier post, it could be: ath10k

this line:

looks like it's using /lib/firmware/ath10k/QCARMSWPZ/ (which is not present in the kernel module obviously)
/lib/firmware/ath10k/*/hw2.0/ dirs appear to be empty as well...
we should be able to include this in the kernel module..
