printing-3.2 for porteus 3.2

New features which should be implemented in Porteus; suggestions are welcome. All questions or problems with testing releases (alpha, beta, or rc) should go in their relevant thread here, rather than the Bug Reports section.

I fully agree. Test it, and return the thing if it is not linux compatible. 8)

@blaze and brokenman:
1.0 Problem under kde5 last edition of porteus 3.2, this is not the case under xfce desktop:
Cups server is not started, needs:

Code: Select all

cupsd
I think that something in the kde5 desktop erases the cupsd command of the print package. Personallyprinters, I was not able to solve the issue.

It is a shame that we do not have more testers. So the big work will come at the issue of final. 8)

2.0 Non compatible printers.
Maybe we should make a linux blacklist of printers make an models.

dbus-python 1.2.4 maybe you need this.... blaze install sbopkg and you have a rsync of the sbo repository locally in /var/lib and you have an easy way to check packages you need.btw usm is the best but you have to know the name of packages that you have to install.

beny, I know about /var/log/packages/ :D

Code: Select all

guest@porteus:~$ find /var/log/packages/ -iname *python*
/var/log/packages/notify-python-0.1.1-x86_64-5
/var/log/packages/python-pillow-3.0.0-x86_64-1
/var/log/packages/python-setuptools-22.0.5-x86_64-1
guest@porteus:~$
In the base of kde 5 desktop environment need to add these packages:

Code: Select all

python-2.7.11-x86_64-2.txz + deps
tcl-8.6.5-x86_64-2.txz
tk-8.6.5-x86_64-2.txz

pygtk-2.24.0-x86_64-2.txz + dep
pycairo-1.10.0-x86_64-1.txz

dbus-python-1.2.4-x86_64-1.txz (thanks to beny)

My list for system-config-printer for 3.1:
-system-config-printer-1.3.13-x86_64-2.txz
-dbus-python-1.1.0-x86_64-1.txz
-foomatic-filters-4.0.12-x86_64-1.txz
-ghostscript-9.05-x86_64-3.txz
-notify-python-0.1.1-x86_64-3.txz
-pycairo-1.8.10-x86_64-2.txz
-pycups-1.9.61-x86_64-1.txz
-pycurl-7.19.0-x86_64-2.txz
-pygobject-2.28.6-x86_64-2.txz
-pygtk-2.24.0-x86_64-1.txz
-python-2.7.3-x86_64-2.txz
-gutenprint-5.2.9-x86_64-1.txz

Though demanded, are not necessary:
tcl-8.6.5-x86_64-2.txz [2740K] [not installed]
tk-8.6.5-x86_64-2.txz [1708K] [not installed]

But maybe a few are not necessary.

francois, probably these pakages

Code: Select all

tcl-8.6.5-x86_64-2.txz
tk-8.6.5-x86_64-2.txz
pycairo-1.10.0-x86_64-1.txz
does not need.

But python-2.7.11-x86_64-2.txz, pygtk-2.24.0-x86_64-2.txz and dbus-python-1.2.4-x86_64-1.txz is absent in KDE5

Thus we should provide a module for the extra dependencies needed by kde5.

I think is better way to add python-2.7.11-x86_64-2.txz, pygtk-2.24.0-x86_64-2.txz and dbus-python-1.2.4-x86_64-1.txz to core KDE5
It does not solidly somehow without python :)

Hi - I try to use printing by download and activate module.

root@porteus:~# system-config-printer

Print Settings - localhost

Printing service not available. Start the service on this computer or connect to another server.

Start service button is greyed.

I can't find cupsd on the system.

root@porteus:~# cupsd
-su: cupsd: command not found

Kernel Linux 4.8.7-porteus i686

000-kernel.xzm
001-core.xzm
002-xorg.xzm
003-mate.xzm
07-printing-i586-16.11.2016.xzm

Printer is an HP LaserJet 4 (Parallel).

Haven't tried this before. Where am I wrong? Thanks!

Please install cups.

Blaze, any reason why cups was not added to the printing module?
