Language selection tool

New features which should be implemented in Porteus; suggestions are welcome. All questions or problems with testing releases (alpha, beta, or rc) should go in their relevant thread here, rather than the Bug Reports section.

Language selection tool

Post#1 by brokenman » 25 Aug 2016, 05:16

I have rewritten the language selection tool and divided the locales into separate languages. This should make the whole process faster in terms of downloading the locales.

I also wrote a script to automatically translate my locale files using bing, yahoo and google but obviously they will need correcting by a competent speaker of the language. I will begin creating and uploading the individual language files soon so people can correct them.

For those that want to begin translating from scratch right now you can get the pot file from here:
https://transfer.sh/1nXEs/gtk-language-selection.pot
https://transfer.sh/udWI5/gtk-language-selection.pot
http://brokenman.porteus.org/i18n/

Issue the following command to download a console translator:
wget http://git.io/trans -P /usr/local/bin
chmod +x /usr/local/bin/trans

Translate like so:
trans -b :pt "The answer to life, the universe and everything is 42"

If you are using Porteus-v3.2rcX then after translating it you can upload it from a terminal using: transfer /path/to/file.txt
This will upload it to a transfer.sh server and give you a link to post here.

Thanks.

Please suspend translations while I make some changes.

EDIT:
Ready. I will upload some crude translations for people to correct soon.

If we have full Russian localization (xzm module), do we need translations for Language selection tool?
Better way, on the step when user use build.porteus.org - need to copy xzm module with Russian localization (by PaulBy and Blaze) into Porteus base directory.
Nevertheless, If you want, I can to do correct translation for the Russian localization of the Language selection tool :)

Blaze I rewrote the language tool so it will need to be re-translated.

The link for the .po files are here. They are all bad translations so a native speaker will need to go through and make the corrections. Once done upload the file somewhere and link to it here. Thanks to everyone that translates.

Thanks Tome.

Looking good. Just a few more locales to go. C'mon people!! The translation is not difficult. It's quite a small file.

proofread please
https://transfer.sh/AbBU5/de-gtk-language-selection.po

btw
I tried to start the language tool --to have some context for translating--
did not work.
It stopped at "inet necessary,exiting"
I was able to browse the net using Lynx - so yes, connection enabled.

Gruess Gott! brokenman et al.

Do you already have someone like neko for Japanese LST Translation on this project?
If you don't have anyone yet for Japanese translation, I would like to contribute.
I even don't know how to do that. So, pls let me know the procedure.

Konnichiwa donald and brokenman,

Japanese file uploaded to https://www.dropbox.com/s/4fs0cfovpr1q9 ... on.po?dl=0.
First experiences of technical translation, of dropbox.xzm, and of file sharing. Exciting! :D
