[solved] /OS/porteus as default OS hierarchy

Since many of us in here experiment with more than one Porteus version (at least I did so back at the time of Slax - with 6.1.2 pimped running XFCe and the remix one "only" running LXDE...)

I suggest adding one more folder hierarchy to where the default Porteus is to be found, either as os/porteus or OS/porteus (since OS is an abbreviation and technically should be written in CAPS...)

It would enable every user to just add other Porteus versions or hopefully spin-offs of porteus into the "os" (or "OS") folder, and that could result into a hierarchy like that:

OS/porteus
OS/porteus-1.3alpha
OS/porteusGnome
OS/porteusLite

...

Just an idea that pested me for a while, to me it sounds appealing.
What do you folks think?

i see no point as you can use 'from_dir=' cheatcode with this hierarchy:

OS/porteus/alpha
OS/porteus/beta
OS/porteus/rc
OS/porteus/final

ofc each folder must contain /boot and /porteus.

Have to say i am really happy with the from_dev/from_dir cheats. I prefer it to the original method and it is much more flexible. Great implementation fanthom!

BTW... does that mean that booting is quicker since Porteus does not have to look for the sng file? (or sgn... I always confuse these since I have no clue what it stands for)

Yes boot time will be a little faster since Porteus is told where to look rather than sniffing down into a directory structure until found.

Good to know then, I will edit menu.lst then. :good:
