Using Porteus 3.0 LXDE i486

This is a beautiful piece of work Porteus Team!

Here's one problem I've run into though, USM search shows:

guvcview-1.7.3-i486-1dj.txz 219k salix

When I click on it and then click "download", it starts processing, then stops with this:

"fatal error" could not find: LIBS.TXT

I've checked /var/usm/salix and LIBS.TXT is there.

Thanks again for all the wonderful work everyone has done on this project,

Sean

ponce.cc/porteus/x86_64/current/drivers/amd-catalyst-14.2_beta-porteus-v3.0-i486-1ftm.xzm not named correctly..
not working for my mobility radeon 5730(as per rc1-2), this card it seems has fallen through the cracks at ati... :(
on the bright side, the os radeon driver is performing(tempwise) better, with dpm enabled now?
the commands from "Dynamic power management" on archwiki https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ati seem to have an effect...

changed the name right now - thanks

pity that even latest beta still does not work for you. shame on AMD.

yes - dpm is enabled by default in 3.13.x kernels so i took a risky decision and bumped kernel to it just for final. so far no kernel related bug reports but i'm pretty sure they will come sooner or later :)

I answer the question: "which was the GUI when I failed to install ?" : It was razor-QT

I appreciate the ease of use of usm ( I easily installed Thunderbird, VLC, zsh )

I had a hard time with magic-folders, and eventually gave up (and I am a seasoned live system specialist !).

The aim was having only

Code: Select all

/home
persistent through reboots, all other changes being modules. This is the way I made hundreds of live systems for years to give to my students: system files are my responsibility, /home files are their.

I use only USB sticks.

Perhaps it is a timing/udev/fsck issue:

Code: Select all

/home
is mounted, as required by magic-folders, on

Code: Select all

/mnt/sdb1
(XFS) but both appears empty.
porteus is loaded from

Code: Select all

/mnt/live/mnt/sdc2

Code: Select all

df /mnt/sdb1
gives exactly the same, correct, information as

Code: Select all

df /mnt/live/mnt/sdc2
, that shows that the OS is wrong.

Starting SpaceFM ( without doing nothing else) is enough to see files under

Code: Select all

/mnt/sdb1
, (

Code: Select all

dmesg
notices a remount) but

Code: Select all

/home
is still empty.

Same problem with ext4 for

Code: Select all

/mnt/sdb1
Now, I am falling back to

Code: Select all

changes=EXIT:UUID:404cd811-fa25-4906-acfe-8ddf0adc2778/porteus-changes
Were not this issue, I should say that Porteus could be my live systems of choice ( after SLAX, Ubuntu, Slitaz, Fedora).

Localisation failure:

The tool is no more language-selection-tool as said in the FAQ, it's gtk-language-selection-tool.

I had no success with it ( Razor-QT). The Choose a system language list is empty/

suggestion for the omine download-wizard.. would it be possible to select a preferred filemanager on the wizard just like I select Browsers?

would be awesome if you could implement that!

@PhLe
checked and both tools works fine here. mind that magic folder config is saved in /rootcopy so make sure you do not boot with 'norootcopy' cheatcode or in Always Fresh (which inherits 'nomagic' and 'norootcopy')
LST mounts glibc over httpfs to display localization list thus needs internet connection so please make sure you have it.

@saneks
rather not. for example KDE is bundled with dolphin and would be hard to replace it with something else. i'm sure some functions (like mtp:// kio) would broke.

@Sean. Thanks for the notification of error in USM. There was a repository update for salix (guvcview) just yesterday which means until I update the database trying to download this package will fail. I currently update the database manually once per week. It will be automated soon and the update of databases will run automatically every 4 hours. This will end the problem.

@brokenman

Thanks for the kind reply. Golly I know you fellas are extremely busy.

I simply did a web-search for the file and DL'd it from pkgs.org/Slackware 14.1/Slackel. Then used txz2xzm.

I'm smiling,

Sean

Downloaded Porteus 3.0 XFCE final 32bit

Installed using netbook MSI U270 AMD Dual-Core E450

EasyBCD neogrub -> OK

created save.dat ->OK

sound change to SB:HDA Intel - HDA ATI SB ->OK (but cannot find volume control applet on the xfce panel)

WIFI -> OK

Mounting NTFS partition to save session upon EXIT -> OK

Installed Libreoffice 4.2.1

installed SCIM input japanese

Appears to be faster and have easier package manager than Porteus 2.1

I love it so far. Thanks to the Developer Team and feedback of beta testers.

Also installed on usb pendrive. :Bravo:

Another report on USM after auto updated to new version doesn't start.

Will revert back to backup save file again because I have saved the session with the updated USM.

But after reading the previous post, I realized that work is in progress regarding the USM pakage manager so I will just wait for final solution because I am not so computer knowledgeable.

Will also appreciate if anyone can help me get a volume applet on the task panel.
