search all filenames

I miss the Everything Search http://www.voidtools.com/.

It doesn't have to be real-time, I'm happy to update the index database manually every time and then search quickly for a filename.

Realizing it on Porteus according to the scripts here http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1712042 required me to install locate. It worked then. Could locate be included in the next Porteus release?

Improving on the GUI, I could use zenity, however currently it says,
root@porteus:~# zenity
zenity: error while loading shared libraries: libnotify.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Could zenity be included properly?
Thanks

slocate is a tiny program so a viable option, but I believe the core has been frozen for the v3.0 final release.

I just tested zenity (using porteus v3.0rc2) and it works for me.

it's really small (20KB) and does not require any extra deps so i added it to 001-core.
thanks

Under debian, the package management mechanism includes a hook to call updatedb.
In Porteus, without such a hook... as is, user will need to remember to call updatedb manually.

Also, for use within a live session context, might be advisable to --exclude several paths within updatedb.conf
(if so, these exclusions should be stated in the default, as installed, updatedb.conf v/s expecting user to tweak the conf)

For anyone looking for a GUI filefinder utility, check out "findwild"
http://www.kornelix.com/findwild.html

I haven't yet checked whether a findwild slackware package exists.
