Print and scan module for Porteus 2.1

New features which should be implemented in Porteus; suggestions are welcome. All questions or problems with testing releases (alpha, beta, or rc) should go in their relevant thread here, rather than the Bug Reports section.

This ppd has to be added to /usr/share/cups/model/ in printing.xzm.
Thanks.

@francois
we have already a Brother-DCP-7020-hl1250.ppd.
what should be the name for yours?

I presume this is the case with every needed ppd, regardless of the manufacturer, and regardless if it's a scanner or printer?
Cheers!

Requesting support for the Canon Pixma MX920 printer. The printer tool detects it fine, but there does not appear to be a driver.

Second, and possibly much harder, Cups support for google cloud print. Chrome is syncing up with the printer fine, but any attempt to print fails by opening cups, which does not show a "cloud printer".

A fellow named Simon Cadman has made a script that inserts this into cups, it might give you a place to start, personally I lack the skills to do either of these things. I can tell you though, having played with several lightweight distros the last couple of weeks, you would be the only one with native support if you added this.

Thanks!

TM

Sorry, for the response delay. I was in the Escoumins (Gulf of St-Lawrence) on a kayak with the whales for about a week.

I know there was Brother-DCP-7020-hl1250.ppd . But it would not work for me. I have achieved to run the DCP-7020 under another distribution.

But trying to get it going now, it does not detect the printer anymore. The cable is quite long. I imagine that this might be more qualified as a hardware issue than a software one.

Lets say that I will hold my demand until I can test with a brand new usb cable.

Thanks.

This is a request to add the samsung ppds to our printing.xzm module. We will have this way a wider printer coverage. The actual coverage for samsung seems to me insufficient.

Samsung Universal linux driver download:
http://org.downloadcenter.samsung.com/d ... .06.tar.gz

Location of the ppds:
. uncompress the package
. within the /uld/noarch/share/ppd the ppds for samsung printers will be the Samsung_xxx.ppd.

Thanks.

This is really interesting. That Brother-DCP-7020 will work on and off. Maybe the reason is that the usb cable is so long (6 meters or 18 feet). Thus the Brother-DCP-7020-hl1250.ppd that you offer is exactly the same as the one I proposed to add. Surprisingly the same printer with the same cable (6 meters or 18 feet) works flawlessly.

Unless, someone else comes with a better explanation. I imagine that I can conclude that this is a hardware problem.

Thanks. :)
