Use "Official" Torrent for Distribution

New features which should be implemented in Porteus; suggestions are welcome. All questions or problems with testing releases (alpha, beta, or rc) should go in their relevant thread here, rather than the Bug Reports section.

Use "Official" Torrent for Distribution

Post#1 by futahorse » 13 Jan 2011, 00:49

If there are enough of us it would be possible to also distribute via a torrent. It'll save on bandwidth hosting and could potentially be a faster alternative to the current method. I'm not suggesting that we get rid of the current method because that would not be prudent.
Maybe we could get more recognition if it was advertised on the torrent sites also.

+1
despite of Ponces server which is good enough [ for now :) ] - we can use torrent websites to advertise ourselves and bring new people to the project :)
futahorse - please prepare a torrent hash and share it here so everyone who is interested will be able to push it to his favorite torrent website.

Cheers

This project: http://www.osst.co.uk asked me to be allowed to host the PixieLive torrent on their server.

I suppose they would be happy to host also Porteus (if an official torrent is already present, they will use it, just seeding, otherwise they have their own tracker)

seems that somebody created torrent for 32bits:
http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/6109095/
(description is not very accurate - but it doesn't matter :) )

please help with seeding and use this particular torrent to spread Porteus ISO on other torrent sites. please dont forget to provide a link to www.porteus.org in the description.
Would be also nice if someone could create similar torrent for 64bits :)

Thanks

In fact the description is just wrong! Please change wording to reflect that it is inspired by Linux Live Scripts by TM but is a project created by fanthom.

A torrent file of Porteus was uploaded by cestpasgagne2, -> http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/6109095 ... 9-i486.iso

The description given to Porteus was an excerpt taken from this link -> http://www.porteus.org/component/conten ... rteus.html (Please try to edit or change the description)

The description given to Porteus looks ambigous or confusing as it seems that Thomas M. was the creator of Porteus and not Fanthom. The description from the link above should be edited or change.

Or better yet the description about Porteus should be taken from this source or link. -> http://www.porteus.org/faq.html#1
and not from http://www.porteus.org/component/conten ... rteus.html
